I care a lot, Black Lung. I read this and remembered your poem under the stars. Thanks for reminding us.

Pleeeeeeze...don't expect the U.S. to execute a regime change in Zimbabwe, although I can't imagine why the world hasn't yet SCREAMED and DEMANDED that the U.S. do so on humanitarian grounds...has anyone called the U.N. yet?....oh, I forgot...the U.N. has no gonads, therefore they are useless....just my little ol' opinion 🙄

Chancremechanic,

By the way... what does "Chancremechainc" stand for? StarValleyWy is where i was born.

Ok. You got to admit that if we were CONSISTENT, we would be about taking out all these despots. I don't feel real proud about the selective nature of taking out dictators. Don't you think we would be on firmer ground if we opposed ALL DICTATORS who commit genecide?

Just asking. Mike

Part of my job is medically treating people who have Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), hence "chancre" which is a sign (sore on the genitals) of an STD. Back in the old days around WW2 up to around Vietnam, Navy and Coast Guard corpsmen were called a variety of colorful names that they took in stride and in some cases with pride. So, since I "fix" STDs as part of my job...hence chancremechanic.
To answer your question: yes, I agree that we would be on "firmer" ground by opposing all dictators with mal content, but who are we to decide?...case in point: Saddam was(is) evil and a mass murderer but we could not muster the international community to agree with deposing him. I'm less sure now than three months ago in whether we did the right thing by toppling him because it's getting worse in Iraq before it's getting better. There are no French or German citizens in Zimbabwe, so we would have to contend with their NO vote on a U.N. resolution, and we would be right back where we startd. Zimbabwe is an African problem (or Dutch) and not an American one, so we should stay out of that mess...my opinion...thanks for asking

Thanks. I have read your handle a hundred times and never extracted "Chancre". It makes sense now. Thanks. Which is quite ironic as when I was a kid i had a chancre on my left cheek that required draining and treatment every day. Go figure.

I once made fun of a leftist on the site who thought it was important what "it looked like" to the world as to our response to evil. I guess, to be fair, I have to hit you too. Does it matter what the world thinks is "attractive"? Do... or should we... give a rats ass what it "looks like"?
I think not. And my approach is that we must be willing to vote in a whole bunch of "one term wonders". Each commander-in-chief willing to take out a rat or two. In a few hundred years, it could make a better world.

With that said... I sometimes go into a cacoon. I want to hide. Is one good, brave life worth it? Are we taking too much from our soul to watch good people killed for an "Idea"? The "Idea" of personal freedom and responsibility? Maybe so. I don't know. That is why i hate even talking about it in the forums. It hurts too damned bad.

Well, I guess if the US wants to "go it alone" and be the global cop that we have become then I can see where you're coming from. In that case, start a $h*t list with the most ruthless dictators at the top and let's roll...onward to Zimbabwe...man, you got me wanting to watch that movie starring Shaka Zulu...or was it Chaka Khan... 😉

As a matter of interest... Did you know the the home of the Zulu on the Indian Oceanic coast boasts the ONLY SITE ON EARTH where there is enough bilologic and mineral diversity to enable a full recovery of the human species should it be hit by a comet?

That region has the climate, genetic diversity (india, africa and europe) to repopulate the earth. All the minerals and metals necessary for a 19th century civilization are to be found within a hundred kilometer region off the coast of shakazulu ( Parden the mix of languages... it amuses me.) It is the only place on earth that qualifies as a fully able region. If I know that... after a two week research effort for a SF novel... I wonder if any others know it and are building "reserves" there?

Get a load of this rubbish.

My personal favourites being

"In any case they[white people] own this economy, they have mismanaged the economy, they steal from their economy and they fire workers for super profits and they do not want to work with the Government."

Which is followed up by this little gem

"Only if all of us work together can Zimbabwe move forward."

I am no fan of Mugabe's, but I'm going to play Devil's advocate here for a moment...

23 years after black majority rule was established, a great majority of the best farmland in Zimbabwe is still concentrated in the hands of white farmers who constitute a tiny minority of the population. Everyone (even the white farmers) agree that some form of land redistribution is in order. If significant reform hasn't been feasible in 23 years, isn't some more dramatic solution in order? Don't Zimbabwe's veterans of their fight for independance deserve some sort of reward? Also, how much of Zimbabwe's recent agricultural shortcomings are the result of chaotic land redistribution, and how much is due to the drought that has been affecting that region?

I would say it is almost entirely down to the redistribution of land. Admittedly, some sort of redistribution was needed, but many peoples idea of "redistributing the land" meant the burning down of all farms, farm equipment and crops, and the deportation of farm-owners (i.e. people who know how to farm), and the persecution of loyal farm-workers (i.e. people who know how to farm). Consequently most farms are just lying derelict, or are being occupied by veterans (i.e. people who do not know how to farm). I'm all for redistributing land, but it has to be done sensibly. Mugabe is nothing more than a thug, and the veterans who you speak so sympathetically about are his willing henchman.

Areas of the country who predominatly voted for Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC party have had food aid withheld in favour of areas who voted for Zanu-PF. However, for the USA/UK/UN to go in with guns blazing is probably not a good idea. I would prefer the situation to be resolved through either pressure from African leaders (SA take note), through the Commonwealth, or more likely a combination of the two.
Just going in and killing/deposing Mugabe will just further flame many native Zimbabweans hatred of white people

I did not speak sympathetically about them at all. I simply asked whether they deserved any compensation.

Very noble indeed. The killing of innocent people has always been a solution. The "reward" these so called veterans receive is a beautiful productive farm, which they turn into a beautiful unproductive desert in no time at all.

Don't Zimbabwe's veterans of their fight for independance deserve some sort of reward?

The real veterans have received very little for their trouble I can assure you.A lot o promises were made by Mugabe but once the war was won, these people were quickly forgotten. Most of the veterans murdering innocent people are between 15 and 30 years old. They have never faught in any war and are nothing but criminals being used by a ruthless dictator for his own gain.

This is NOT a black vs white thing.A lot of people would prefer it that way but it is simply not the case.Ask the ex Zimbabwean cricketer Henry Olonga whether this is a racial issue.I am sure he will be able to answer that question much better than most of us on this forum.

You are not playing devil's advocate sir.Mugabe makes the devil look about as dangerous as a toddler with a crayon.
