Specific to the site and non gender specific.

yes, "gernder discrimination" is a bit too much, but I think there could be another picture. 🙂

Gender considerations aside, the default avatar does have a sort of sinister "Mr. X" kind of look. I like the idea of a pawn being the default picture.

oh you mean like in heavy metal - that kind of stuff?
so is it called that because steel guitar strings or is there a historical significance to that word?

Sarah, I don't think there's anything wrong with bringing this up - it's not a waste of time, you're perfectly entitled to make a suggestion in the "nice idea, but not essential" category. That was how I understood it, some people seem to be taking it other ways.

The default avatar *does* look male to me.

I think the idea of a pawn or some similar symbolic picture as the default is a good one. No gender implied. No hairstyle or build implied either! 😉

The only thing that should be ignored here is Asianrose's post which simply doesn't make sense.
I know plenty of girls with very short hair.............but if she wants the women to be a stereotype............
One post of Debi was deleted, but it can still be partially seen in a quote.

What Debi said was rude, and way out of order in response to an innocent post of AsianRose, that is why i said to ignore Debi. Female of not, what i said still applies.

I didn't mean to start any controversy -- I just found it strange/funny to be represented with what looked like a male to me (even women with short hair would have a different build). When I remarked to a friend of mine sitting next to me a few days ago, she said something to the effect of "hey, it's like a way of making you pay to put your own avatar." As just an off-the-cuff, pretty meaningless post, I wanted to say that I was 1. amused by the male (looking) default avatar. 2. I thought it would be better (jokingly) for Russ to have a female looking avatar, since many more men are non-subscribers in the forum and I'm sure a couple extra guys would pay 19.95 not to have their forum avatar look like a female. Nothing I said was strident or confrontational (read my first post and I hope you see I'm being lighthearted); I thought most would see it as teasing and as "just a suggestion, but don't care if it's listened to or not" post. There was no anger, no "feminist tirade." I give Debi all the respect she deserves, but her reply missed my point and suggested I was angry and hurting women's rights. I replied with some annoyance, but of course I don't feel Debi necessarily should have had her post deleted, because it didn't offend me and I know her intentions were well meant.
