Checkers solved by computer.

In a major effort lasting years and using the latest supercomputers analyzing 500 billion moves, they solved checkers totally, its a draw with best play, as everyone knew. Is Chess next?

NEVER BE NEXT. there are too many variables for "second" best moves....plus...even if it does get "solved"...then we move onto "random" chess where the peices are scattered behind the pawns before the game and tactics prevail.....enough said.

a few years for a basic game like checkers and it has like 8 options on the first move. chess has 20 on the first move and as each piece moves it is exponentially greater with the ammount of moves. i'd say at least 50 years if computers advanced as fast as they could, and have.

and by then i'd be long dead playing the "great" game with the Chess Gods in the tournament that never ends.....

FYI....I'm gunna play 1...g6 against Alekhine.

Checkers may be concidered complicated by some checkers players.
Chess is concidered even more complicated by chess players.
But the Game of Go is what I would call a Complicated game!

The first move of checkers can be 1 of 8.
The first move of chess can be 1 of 20
The first move of Go can be 1 of 361, if you take symmetries into account 1 of 55. The other sode can then choose 1 of 360 places because now there is no symmetries. (The Game of Go is played on a board with 19x19 'squares'.) This makes the Game of Go far more complicated as chess.

The Game of Go is like a childrens game compared with chess.

The disadvantage with Game of Go is there is very few who know how to play Go, even though the rules are quite simple.

chess is a declining game sad to say. guess technology blew it out of the water. i mean kids are use to instant gratification these days why would they be interested in chess?

so that brings up the question, when was it in its peak??

Although I think chess may have declined a little in top level play since bobby fischer, the internet has really rekindled chess for many as it gives people a place to play if theres no one around to play with.

after fischer left the game declined. maybe its all the tension he brought to the table that had people interested in the game.

Go is awesome. but it makes me feel like an idiot.....hmm, maybe it's more like chess than I previously thought.

It is 'relatively' easy to write a computer program to play Checkers.
It is not too hard to write a computer program to play Chess.
It is impossible to write a computer program to play the Game of Go that win ...[text shortened]... haven't seen any.

Game of Go is a matter of pattern recognition, far beyond that of Chess.
