Checkers may be concidered complicated by some checkers players.
Chess is concidered even more complicated by chess players.
But the Game of Go is what I would call a Complicated game!
The first move of checkers can be 1 of 8.
The first move of chess can be 1 of 20
The first move of Go can be 1 of 361, if you take symmetries into account 1 of 55. T ...[text shortened]... me of Go is there is very few who know how to play Go, even though the rules are quite simple.

Game of Go is not at all boring when you get the hang of it. When you get the feeling of it and start to win then it is very much fascinating.
It is 'relatively' easy to write a computer program to play Checkers.
It is not too hard to write a computer program to play Chess.
It is impossible to write a computer program to play the Game of Go that win ...[text shortened]... haven't seen any.
Game of Go is a matter of pattern recognition, far beyond that of Chess.

I've looked at Go and I don't think it's necessarily more complicated - at least not for a human. It is however, far less tactical and more about a global strategy. It's just very different.
the game seems positional, and indeed is from the beginning...but then becomes tactical nearer to the end.

In a major effort lasting years and using the latest supercomputers analyzing 500 billion moves, they solved checkers totally, its a draw with best play, as everyone knew. Is Chess next?

A typical ending position in checkers may be 30 moves deep. I love Tinsley's quote; it's so true.
I would like to see Chinook examine if American Checkers (English Draughts) is a draw from the initila position. They only studied the initial position from the 3-move card deck.
My father was a master checker player and always said the opening move 9-13 was a loss. Masters agree it is a bad move, but he insisted it was a loss.

NEVER BE NEXT. there are too many variables for "second" best moves....plus...even if it does get "solved"...then we move onto "random" chess where the peices are scattered behind the pawns before the game and tactics prevail.....enough said.

If chess gets solved, I'm guessing go won't be far behind - only because the breakthrough in computing power needed to solve one game with more possible positions than atoms in the universe, if it occurred, seems likely to be big enough to solve the go problem too. 🙂

If you see, the number of kids over the past 20 or so years in the USCF has skyrocketed; from making up less than 5% of the total USCF membership in the 60's and 70's, they now make up 50%! Plus, if you see the top Fide top 100 lists, more and more young people are getting in there.
chess is a declining game sad to say. guess technology blew it out of the water. i mean kids are use to instant gratification these days why would they be interested in chess?
