I've decided to start opening with e4. I have something lined up for the Sicilian, but what I'm looking for is something dubious but fun to play when my opponent replies with e5. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I'm trying the Latvian Gambit, so something along these lines would be great.
Originally posted by LukerikHave you tried Bishops opening? little theory, get a great tactical game, cuts out all the Ruy Lopez theory as well as the ultra solid Petroff, no more worrying about them crazy Schliemann lines or being bored to death with 'the berlin wall', , but saying that, the Ruy Lopez is rolls royce of 1.e4 e5 games!

The Danish...fun stuff!
Thanks for your suggestions everyone 🙂 Much appreciated.
Coincidentally I was just looking favourably at the Evans Gambit the other day. Might be a bit on the sound side but one of my problems is a certain anal approach to pawn structure that leads to some very boring positions. Anything that messes me up and makes me think tactically (one of my main weaknesses) is good.
The Danish though! My God, now that is deeply sexy. I've just had to change my knickers.
Might take me a while to try all of these out though. All the crazy kids these days seem to be playing the Sicilian.
No example of the Greenpawn Gambit in chessbase, but someone has reached a reversed Latvian, and he's called Patzer!

What a great name for a chess player.
Could get him into bother at the start of a game.
"Hello, Good afternoon, What's your name>"
"Patzer."
"Who are you calling a Patzer yah Schmuck?"
and a fight breaks out.
Don't read too much into that game - look at the grade difference.
2050- 1600 White was odds on to win no matter what he played.
So the DB does not have 1.e4 Nf6 2.f3 well in that case it's mine
so I get to name it.
Some poe-faced official will most likelt call it the Latvian Delayed
so I had better be quick.
The Bish Bash Bosh
There. Now I want to see Batsford stick that on the front of one of their books.
Originally posted by MacpoThanks, but my tactics are terrible so I'm trying things with e4 where I can go down a pawn or two in the opening.
My suggestion: don't play 1. e4.
It was refuted a long time ago, especially if you don't like tactics.
You'd better go d4, for depth and intelligence.
Then I could propose you plenty of things.

how about the cozio defense. Its very conservative, but strives for two pawns in the center. at your level people don't know how to combat it well nor earn an even chance against it.
