Please....lighten up. Disgrace is pretty strong stuff, obviously my opponent is clowning around here. These forums at times have been loaded with more miserable and nonsensical crap, and a guy cant even have a little fun in the chess only section. Show me where in the 'Official Rules of Chess Forums" where it says I cant post this. I got your "disgrace" swingin....
i dont know any 'official rules of chess forums'...however, i know it to be bad etiquette to comment on games still in progress.
Originally posted by peterhGranted Peter, my reply was a bit on the strong side too, sorry. I would never dream of commenting on a "serious" game in progress, I do however have a very difficult time classifying this as serious. If you read the posts in this thread I think you will find that this is a very lighthearted thread meant not to harm anyones game. Rgds., Bob

Discussing this game because it isn't serious might possibly set a precedent, and next time someone wants to talk about a game in progress, this thread will be used as a reference to justify the next time it happens.
Sooner or later we could have a heated battle about discussing games in progress based on whether they are "serious" games, or not. Maybe this time it's really just silliness, but sooner or later it might actually be a serious game involving moves that are unusual but made with serious intentions.
So it makes more sense to me to just not talk about any game until it's completed.
Just my opinion... Does any of this make sense?

I would agree, as Peter said, that it is poor ettiqette. Maybe, just maybe, I'm a little hurt here because I feel you fellas are getting a little too technical on me here. Put yourself in my shoes. My opponent hasnt made a move in the first dozen moves of the game. Surely you can all see the difference between that and discussing a real game. After almost two years on this site, I'm a little saddened that I am being called on te carpet over this. Just asking for a little common sense to prevail. Can you really take the game in progress as being serious?

"Sure it makes sense Marc if you can show me where the vote took place saying we cant talk about games in progress anyway."
There is no voting needed if we stick to the rules of correspondence chess. Allowed are books, databases, sideboard(s) and agreed upon time. Nothing else.
That does not mean that asking people to have a look at it, like you did, is wrong. The problem is that the borderline can be crossed so easily when reactions are given.
Originally posted by Bobla45Nope, I can't show you where a vote took place. So please disregard anything I said that would have otherwise made sense.

Originally posted by mwmillerYou can escalate this if you like. The bottom line is I got snippy with, and then apologized to the guy who called this thread a disgrace. All over a lousy game where one player has chosen not to move his pieces. Funny how my kids cant log on to these forums without reading the daily mockery of how their god doesnt exist, their country is the most evil place on earth to be, and their leaders are the second coming of the devil, without so much of a blink from the cyber police, but to have to be called out over this is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, use some common sense. The posts in this thread alone will tell you the membership was treating this lightly and having some fun with this. Not much fun now though.

I'm with Bob,this is a light hearted thread where no one suggested moves or tactics,so I don't see where the problem is.
Thug is playing a really strange (euphemism) game and Bob wanted to show us the weird position.
I'm grateful to him because I guess I'll never see something like that again..........
It was fun until someone came here the needle in the whilst:everyone can see the game and see that there's not much to comment.

I merely expressed and tried to explain my personal opinion on the subject of discussing a game in progress. It certainly was not my intention to attack you personally for starting this particular thread.

Originally posted by RavelloSorry, but TovMauzer did suggest where to place pawns and they have to move to get there. The terms of service clearly ban getting help from third parties, so a "vote" isn't necessary. I guess you could split hairs and say "commenting" on a game doesn't involve suggesting moves or tactics, but when someone is ridiculing another player's moves I think that qualifies as advice to change what they're doing. I guess I would have to take back my prior comment of "idiotic" as after further reflection I believe that is not appropriate in an ongoing game. Perhaps the terminology on all sides in this thread have been excessive, but I still think we should keep within the TOS and chess etiquette.

Originally posted by no1marauderThis has all been blown out of proportion IMO. He was letting us see a game that was overly ridiculous. It wasn't even like the guy was making strange moves, he wasn't making ANY at all! The pawn moves that were suggested were clearly not conjoured to break the TOS. Infact, he was just commenting about the same knight moves over and over again in saying such pawn move. In regards to that, any "suggestion" he might have made is nullified with that fact. We shouldn't be critical over one thing that Bobla said, when we know very well that he had no bad intention. I don't think any advice could help this guy anyway, and I am confident in Bobla's skill that he can defeat an opponent who does not move his pieces.
