Turns out the Damiano Defence is the pits. (you, know, when black supports the e pawn with f3. I used to do it in 5th grade). there's lots of other interesting stuff there to meander around. Enjoy!

Hey, Ravello,
Ask Jones662. He said he had some success with it in blitz games against experts. (see thread on "opening snobs"😉. I challenged him to produce a score of one of the games. So we shall see...
On Chesscafe there was some stuff about it.
Remain the fact that amongst patzers like me there's no way you can get away with the game playing that crappy defence.
Originally posted by buddy2It appears to be missing the King's Indian Defense... that should void the validity of the statistics as it's a major defense for black... unless I missed it somewhere.

Diamono defense? What's that? The worst opening for sure is the Traxler counterattack. White can force mate in less than 60 moves after 4. ...Bc5?? However it is quite comical to me that this opening has survived this long (the winning line for white hasn't been known until recently. It is a quite simple forced win.) Actually I don't think very many people know of the refutation! This one guy used computer analysis for over a thousand hours and still didn't find the refutation! It didn't take me much more than one hour. He's even selling a CD with all these useless unsound lines. If you look for analysis on the opening you will find poor moves given a !? or even a !. One of the reasons I find this so amusing is that many GMs have made this blunder (and gotten away with it) including who is probably the world's top player: Viswanathan Anand. Even RHPs highly esteemed Ironman31 has made this blunder! Does anyone see the humor in this? And bonus points to anyone can find the refutation and post it here!

I would post the line here, really I would, but I might want to keep it to myself 🙂 I didn't actually go through every variation after white has a win (although white has a forced variation that gives him an extra piece and positional advantage for nothing) and it is clear that black cannot avoid mate after 60 moves... hey what the heck? I'll just post the analysis here just give me 10 minutes to get it written down. Oh and I actually found the variation played in one single game at chesslive.de (the chessbase game database). Although the guy didn't play the strongest continuation it was winning nonetheless. His opponent resigned right away.
I will give any move that is the only move to win a ! Here is the refutation to the Traxler Counterattack: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 Bc5?? 5. Nxf7! Bxf2+ 6. Kxf2! Nxe4+ 7. Kg1! Qh4 8. g3! Nxg3 9. Nxh8! Nxh1 (Ne4 is also losing) 10. d3!! this move controls the e4 square stopping any chances of perpetual check for black. d5 blacks best try 11. Bxd5! Qd4+ 12. Be3! Qxd5 13. Nc3! (Qh5+ is also winning but this move is even better! It seems after Qg8 the knight will be stuck in the corner without the help of the light squared bishop, but surprisingly enough it can escape. You can check this for yourself, as eventually white plays Ng6 and it can't be captured or in some lines it is captured but white gets a huge attack (as well as some pawns) on the bare black king.) I wonder if anyone here plays Bc5, because now everyone who reads this knows the line! I hope this clears things up.
