We are here - White has just played 14.Bf4-g5
Time left White: 1Hour 44 - Black 1 hour

This has the making of being an interesting game.
Has Grischuk change tactics and not gone for the lottery of Blitz play?
t be considered.
Edit: Gelfland has played 14...Re8 instead of 14...e5. OK I'll shut up.
long thinks and lots of Russian analysis. I think your move ...e4 was according to the
analysts, better.
They are both quite interesting to watch, Grishy talks to himself, he is clearly playing
the game in his minds eye, his eyes flit over the board, Gelfand looks inside himself,
holds his head in his hands, quite amusing to watch.
Yeah meant 14...e4 (I'm not going back to edit it again to correct things).
White's on the ice. He is going to have play Bxf6 get the Queens off.
Then we should get a lone passer on d5 v a White Queenside majority.
(or something like.)
Edit:
He's gone for Bxf6 but Black has played e4 (that's two out of two wrong) 🙂

OK one last shot at this before I get bored.
White to play.

He will play Ke3 as the more obvious Kc3 will allow an eventual Be6 gaining
a tempo on the c4 pawn.
I'm happy where I am with no noise or crappy commentary.
These guys don't know what they are talking about.....😕
Anyway some sites I try get on won't let me because my kit is so naff.
I get prompted to upload the latest flash driver thingy.
Grischuk is taking ages to find 19.Ke3 he has fallen behind on the clock.
I think he still has a pull....perhaps letting his time go so he can offer a draw.
Analysis of the game here by Dennis Monokroussos

Apparently the 14 e4 I wanted to play here.
Had been played before and Gelf's 14.Re8 was a TN.
(He wasted a lot of time playing this TN if it was preparation.)
My 19.Ke3 here does not rate a mention.
The plan being Black would have to spend a tempo holding the b-pawn
rather than swapping the c-pawn (my candidate passer) for the b-pawn
as what happened in the game.
Highlights a known weakness I have when I have a development lead.
I take risks to keep it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails and Black
equalises with my pieces on iffy squares. (still think it's OK...ish...) 😉

my dear Lady, Gelfand will be fortunate if he survives this. You know its true. Hes, dare i say it, playing for a draw as we speak, the shame of it! 🙂
2. Gelfand is one of the best endgamers in the world, he showed great defence. ...Bc8 was the move that saved the game.
3. It's ok to play as black for a draw in the final. Btw Kasparov played almost every game for a win, but he also used this variation of QG

2.Yes he did manage to save the game his defence was outstanding, ...Bc8 was a great
move, we were in fact all wondering what he was doing allowing b6, indeed i thought
he was going to exchange rook for bishop and pawn, but he had much better idea than
that.
3.How is it ok to play for a draw as black???, you should be fighting first for equality
and then the initiative, no excuses, no wussy stuff. Citing that another player also
used this variation to win hardly lends credence to Gelfands own play, but never the
less, i like the old guy, he did good.
