Originally posted by meriaYeah, 1.Bd3 Be4 does look interesting. My patzer eyes also liked 1...Re4. And maybe even 1...Re1+?! (Sacrificing the exchange. And if 2.Kf2, then 2...Qh4+ 3.g3 QxBd4+!? or 3.Rg3+ QxBd4+!?) Also, 1...Nf6 is a quieter move, but I'm not sure it really defends all that much.
For the black defense, what about Be4?
Don't forget guys that the Root can occupy this e4 position too as it is supported by the pawn.
But I can't tell if for now, this is the B or the R that have to go to e4. I presume the bishop as it is a minor piece instead of the Root, but don't have more time to worj on it as I am at work :shame:
:p
The problem with me having patzer eyes is that all the possibilities are as clear as mud. 😞
I did use a brute-force search to verify that after 1.Bd3, there are only two responses by Black that fit the mate-in-11 theme. The already identified 1...Bxd3 response might make it a little easier for White, but it's still a mate in 11. (Like I'd ever be able to figure that out on my own.)
It's interesting that none of us had guessed the other correct response by Black.
