Let's break the news gently. Yes, Gambit3, genteel social considerations and civilized protocols still remain operative within a few global villages and green earth corners of the waist high/anything goes culture of a self destructing world.

All this board etiquette stuff is for girls.
When I capture piece or pawn I do not put it gently on the side of the board.
I toss it over my shoulder and if my opponent goes to to the toilet then
I grab his score sheet, scribble out his name and write 'Klutz'.
I then put random '??' beside some of his moves.
And of course I wind his clock on 10 - 15 minutes.
If things are looking dodgy for me I simply turn the board around
and play his position. If I screw it up I turn it back again.
Another ploy whilst he is away is to put back on the board one of
your captured pieces, preferably a Queen. If challenged deny it.
If getting mated on h1 then grab the board next you, slide it across and
move you King from h1 on your board to a1 on the other board.
(I've check the FIDE rule book there is nothing in there that says you cannot do this).

the way in your wee youth you missed out on your 'stand up comic calling'.

I've done stand up. Honestly.
I did it twice at a club in Edinburgh two nights and two 7 minute slots.
It went OK, I was asked back, but the nerves before hand were awful.
A great buzz hearing a whole audience laugh.
Usually it's just a handful of guys in the pub.
I'll never heckle a comedian not matter how bad he is.
I know how lonely and hard it is up there.
