When im whooping on 1100's on Playchess, during 90+5 games I set up a real board. All my one move anylasis is done on the real board. The computer is only used to enter the moves like 2.Qh5 and the like. I have found this to be very beneficial when I am taking a break from OTB games. The only problem having the real board set up is that sometimes when ...[text shortened]... it works. Trust me! Do not move the pieces. When you finally reach 1200, you will feel dirty.
imao? sorry not computer savy either. No serisously, this is how I study with patterns. After I solve the puzzle (usually 4 or 5 ply) I try very hard to visualize the resulting posiiton and material imbalance. After I have the resulting posiiton in my head I take the puzzle another 4 or 5 ply deep. Many may see this as overkill but its a great way to train you visualazation muscle. The only problems I set up on a board are the problems I cannot soleve directly from the book. Once on the board they remain there, sometimes for days untill I am able to solve them. For an added challenge set the position up from memory.
edit: what wrong with 1100 on RHP, I could care less about the rating here
Ok but how long will it take you to set up, say 100 positions? To do 100 problems on CT Art, all you have to do is solve and click a simple button. You can leave it on your computer for days too.
But with a book it takes 2-3 minutes just to set up the position and then solve. That's twice the time, or half the amount done.
