I take it that Double chess is out of the question? I see all these tournaments taking place ( will get a star soon! ) and had this insane notion that a (non-rated of course) tournament of doublechess would be neat :-0

you know, 4 players, 2 chess boards, you play white your friend plays black, pieces taken go to your friend (etc etc)

i take it that this type of chess is strictly for the chessclub around the corner (and down the road, past two set of lights, beside the zoo? *Hi Mom!*)

- the programming involved would be too much effort for this to be feasible?

Also, Unless I am mistaken all the tournaments I see are 1 vs All. Well, what about teams? you know, 4 vs 4 or 4vs4vs4vs4vs4vs4vs4 (or even 40 vs 40?)

(this might appeal to those involved in the Map war thingy I keep hearing about)

anyway, just a few suggestions. (the 2nd one sounds feasible i thought?)

ps I love this site :-)

Here's a link for you to follow. It will take you to a site that shows our first two tournaments, which were organized by members before the RHP tournament page was operational. One is completed, and the other is still in progress I believe...

The tournaments are still fairly new here, and any suggestions or ideas are worth consideration.

Russ and Chris are doing an excellent job of programming, and I'm sure if you have a good idea, they will give it a serious look and try and make it work here.

I think team tournaments would be a great idea.
This is a very social site after all 🙂
I'm going to have to get a star some time and join in!

How about tag team chess? Two players (or more) per team, one board, take it in turns to move. No collaboration between team members, perhaps.😵

Wow, tag-team would be great! However, you'd have to really good communication with your teammate to decide on your plan - otherwise I can see myself banging the screen say "AGH!@$#!%@!% Why did you move that piece!!! You weren't supposed to move that!!!"

Team chess would be fun as well - it would probably take a while to play games though, since I imagine a voting system would have to be used to make a move, and therefore everyone would have to weigh in their opinions on every single move before it could be made. I think you'd be very fortunate to get one move per side per day in that kind of situation.

Still, great ideas.

I think Tag-Team without discussions between players sounds cool. It would level out the playing field for sure as it would magnify their weaknesses while averaging their strengths. It would be a lot of fun if you could pick your teammate for some of the tournaments as well.

I've played no-talking tag team chess OTB and it can be really fun. Especially when 2 stronger players are each paired with a weaker player, since what generally happens is one weaker player will make a bad move, and his/her teammate will groan and the other stronger player will grin, with both the weaker players looking confused.

Huh? 🙄

You mean like that? 😉 I think this idea is really cool. I've never played 'blind' team chess like that but I'd love to try.

Mike,
As a captain of an internet chess team, they don't work that way. It's just like any other game you presently play, except they have a standard 3 day T/O. The highest rated player on team A plays the highest rated on team B and so forth. You get points for wins, none for draws and negative points for loses, but your individual accomplishments are recognized as well.

What a great idea! For RHP purposes though, I think it might be best if they were unrated. Of course there could always be rated and unrated, but the option of unrated tournaments is the only way I can see getting some of the players here to join. I can't imagine anyone high in the rankings putting their rating at risk, except perhaps if they got another high rated player to team with. If nothing else, it would be a real hoot for those of us who don't care much about our ratings. 🙂
