What do you consider a "high rated" player?

I know the rule, but that doesn't mean I don't usually overlook the possibility when it actually comes up in a game. Fortunately the last time that happened it wasn't the best move anyway, but still, I should be looking at it.

Concerning the in passing rule any player above a beginner should know this rule. I was told about it before I played my first game. In Red Hot Pawn I would call any player above 1450 a high rate to a beginner.

It is strange how many top ranked players do not necessarily know all the rules. Korchnoi had to ask about the rules governing castling during the 1975 candidates final against Karpov. Sometimes people forget or have never come across the situation before.

Yeah, Korchnoi/Karpov, I think stress may have had a lot to do with his asking if his rook could move through a controlled square, he HAD to have known it was legal. Easy to blow a synapse when you're under the gun.
