Hi Lanndon, I had a little time to look up some URLs in case you still need them.
You probably already know the Rybka site, but for completeness, it's: http://www.rybkachess.com/
Here's a couple of ftp sites where you can get 3-5 piece tb files:
ftp://ftp.uib.no/pub/chesslib/ (download contents of all three folders into one folder)
ftp://ftp.cis.uab.edu/pub/hyatt/TB/3-4-5
Here's the latest version of Toga:
http://www.uciengines.de/UCI-Engines/TogaII/togaii.html
And here's the Sedat and Schnapp opening books in ctg (Chessbase) format:
http://www.geocities.com/sedatchess/download.html
http://perso.orange.fr/lefouduroi/hs-books.htm
As I said, these books are probably decent, but I'm not sure if they're better than the larger books that come with the commercial engines. But they're a good choice if you're looking for a basic all-around book.
Have fun!

Good luck at redhotpawn by the way!

Surprisingly, Toga II 1.2.1a doesn't seem to be any stronger than Spike 1.2. According to my tests, they both win 13 game sout of 26 at the 6 6 time setting. Spike 1.2 seems like a big improvement.
Also, Xanthos, what you said is intersting. Would it be correct to assume that the Shredderbases make have an influence from middle to endgame? If so, this feature seems more and more attractive.

ie choice of two 6 move forcing varitions then the endgame tablebases kick in the engine would be able to see that say one was won and that the other was lost.
Originally posted by exigentskyShredderbase is just a new name for a different (faster) way of storing the tablebase information that the Shredder team have come up with. They claim the new format is 1000 times faster. However I can't really see the need for it considering that tablebase access is already pretty much instantaneous.
