MadRook, thanks for posting the game. I loved watching that. Their level of play is in a completely different galaxy than mine.
I did notice that Alex avoided the most common 5th move (5.0-0), but instead played 5.d4, the Centre Attack. It's supposed to be sharp - probably White's attempt at dragging Black into deep waters where White's higher rating would be decisive. Too bad for Alex that it didn't work. 😉
As far as whether 7.e5 or 7.Re1 is better, I have no idea. My engine liked them both about the same (at 16 ply).
I guess White didn't play a really bad move until move 24, and Black jumped on it. A really nice game by Black.
