Those names are new to me... Well, I'm new to chess. I've just been palying with my friends couple of times and that's all. So is there any site where i could learn more about those openings and strategies? I'm really interested to know. Thank you!

White: e4, against Sicilian I play mainline (open sicilian except against 2. e6 to which I play c3), against French, Advance, against Alekhine, Orhtodox Defence, against Grunfeld, 130 Attack, against e5, Ruy Lopez, against Caro Kann, Advance, against Petroff, Modern Defence.

Black: against e4 Sicilian (Dragon or Kan), and French. Against d4 Nimzo Indian, Queen's Indian, or against irregular replies after 1... Nf6 I play g6. Against c4 Symmetrical or 1.. Nf6. Against Nf3, 1...c5.

Good thing I got that off my chest.

White against strong players: Random.

Whoops I didn't realize we were supposed to put our favourite opening and not our opening repertoire.

That being said my favourite opening is the Sicilian Kan.

The Kan has to be one of the best openings for 'waiting'. Every move is still very useful and allows for rock solid defense, counter attack and smooth purposeful development. good choice!

I play KG as white or Reti, depending on whether I want a sharp game or a long strategic one.
As Black, always Sicilian against 1.e4. Variations include Accel Dragon, Kan and Kalashnikov (ultra sharp!). Against d4; KID, NimzoIndian or Budapest (for fun). Against English, I play e5 and attempt to steer into Sicilian flavoured lines.

1.d4 with white, then it depends on what my oponent does

I'm playing with 1...d6 against everything with black but I've had some disasters.

I can never get comfortable with black. I seem equally inept with the Sicilian against e4 and QGD against d4 so I'm trying d6. I always seem to end up with an inferior position against good oponents then have to fight uphill.

End rant.

Try 1. ... e6 or 1. ... e5.
