but I suspect you're trying to gain teaching experience, so it's probably better idea to do it live.
Ah, you're back! I was hoping you would show up and go through some live tactics with me instead of that tactics server your use.

We have to set up something later on this week. I know you say you do tons of tactics but I still dont' believe doing them that quickly is better then doing a few slowly. Prove me wrong 🙂

^^ Wormwood posts quite a lot on chess emeralds message board, and if i remember correctly, I think he got into an aguement about what was better, speed or accuracy, to which, i think he sided with accuracy (which means doing them slower)

....hold on, I'll check...

....

^ no dice, they must cut it everyonce in a while, my posts are not there either.

Yes I keep nagging at wormwood to do tactics slowly instead of his beloved CTS, but the boy just want listen isn't that right Wormwood 🙂 ?

I saw your post about it, but I had just come from a rock festival and was quite exhausted... it's not about which way is better, both train different aspects of tactical ability. I think CTS builds pattern recognition and intuition, slow tactics calculation. I'll get to the slow stuff eventually, don't you worry. 🙂 so far it's working for me, and I'll do it (among other things) until it stops working... I think it'll work until I'll have the easier combinations ground into my head. after that it's time to break out the harder, slow stuff. but I have only so much time and it's only been one year. I think I've done okay.

shinidoki: CTS had server problems about a month ago, and that's when the old messages were lost. but yes, I did say I prefer accuracy over quantity, but not at all costs.

edit: heh, and I do listen to you rahim. 🙂

Then you wouldn't mind solving some of the easy puzzles and showing me that you are learning?

Doing them on Cts is one thing but doing them when the pressure is on and someone nagging you, me have you solved it yet, now, now, etc... JJ I don't do that, is another thing.

I was suprised that 1600+ ppl on Rhp couldn't get some of the easy ones. Very suprised, I would probably do the same if I hadn't seriously studied tactics.

I'm thinking I might do another one later on. It's hard to get the timing right. When I'm done work, you Europeans and Asians are sleeping and when i'm sleeping you guys are up 🙁

White to move

Solve in under 90 seconds. That should be reasonable. Do this in your head and write out the whole variation.

I just crack under pressure, when playing someone face-to-face you can always tell if i'm up to something because my hand will shake a lot more than usual, over the internet my hands don't shake, but for some reason I still get very nervous.

1) 1.Qc3+ Kh7 2.Qe1 took me ages, maybe 5min. don't know why, I usually see this kind of tactics instantly... I think I was looking for something much harder, which was wrong assumption... maybe others did the same mistake?

2) 1.Nxd3 and if black recaptures he loses the rook Rxd3 2.Ra8+ Kh7 3.Be4+ took me around 10s

3) 1.Ne7+ Kf8 2.Qxc8+ Qxc8 3.Nxc8 I saw the elements instantly, but had some trouble with the order of moves. took me around 1min.

the last one got me thinking about the difference between spotting the elements and finding the right order. I think CTS probably trains heavily the former, and slow tactics the latter. obviously some kind of a balance would be ideal.
