"Probbaly," you never passed a High School English course yourself. And yes, it would be good if you could undo your "unsult."

Mummy and Daddy are financing his studies. No scholarship for this boy.

I finally got around to joining a chess club and played my first propper OTB match against the treasurer (which of course means nothing about his chess ability), 1h30 each on the clock. I screwed up the start, gave away the centre, but came through to win by a pawn with 4 minutes left on the clock.

Not that you'll care about any of thi ...[text shortened]... d use to make it easy (eg. 1.Nc3 Pe5...)

Thanks to anyone who'll take the time

It's proper that you won. At our club it is policy to let the new guy win for a couple of weeks. It keeps you comming back. What if you had lost horrilby? Would the treasurer see your money come back through the door again?

Another 'fact' you've got wrong about me skeets. When I finish my degree I'll be over 20k in debt. My parents aren't paying for crap.

PS exigentsky I completed English in the my last year of highschool and scored well. Of course none of it had anything to do with grammar, it was analyse the themes of this and language techniques of that. Mindnumbing really.

Well done on the win, I keep wondering about playing OTB again but would need my opponent to look away while I did a quick manual analyse board; I suppose that'a a drawback of correspondence chess- no quick decisions.

Xanthos also posts helpful stuff for weaker players and is not Australian and those are two key factors in his favour.
I think you may be mixing him up with bowman who does actually do that, can't imagine a self centred twerp like xanthos doing anthing to help anyone except himself

OTB is the best way to play chess.
You NEVER lose because you got disconnected.
You NEVER lose because your opponent cheated with a program.
You don't have to worry about people pointing out your spelling errors.
And best of all if your opponent trash talks you, or is just being a jerk , you can punch him REAL hard in the nose.

Wrong point number 3 about the cheating. It happens now and then.

You mean he wasn't really pleased to see me, that was actually an engine in his pocket?

If you post your game in algebraic notation I can run it through an engine for you if someone else hasn't done that yet. This entire thread really degraded into something that has nothing to do with the original message.

Haha, I'm guessing your are a guy, and wouldn't want your opponent probably a guy to be happy to see you 😛

But yes, it happens. Not very ethical especially when you're doing it in OTB against a face-to-face opponent. But the risk is great. You get caught, you get the public boot, No one invites you again (blacklist sort of), Loose the money, have to write apologizes etc....
