I really really have to ask this question. how can you not know the rule about stalemate after 1735 games you have played here?
His rating after 1735 games sort of highlights why he is asking the question.
Highly rated players "making fun" of lowly rated players devalues the value of this forum and will put off people asking questions when all they want is an explanation to a situation they do not understand.
The question was perfectly adequately answered by the 2nd post in this thread.
Also, as greenpawn (i wish i was good enough to draw against him) points out, maybe its the first time he's encountered this situation.
I've played over 400 games and never encountered the 50+ moves without taking a piece rule yet.
Hey, maybe I've not stated the rule verbatim, are you going to call me out now too?
Maybe the site should add a high rollers forum for people such as yourself so you don't have to concern yourself with questions about the base rules of the game.
I'm also a little concerned that a very active subscriber is allowed to be called out by a non-subscriber.
(No edits needed, unless I've made a spelling mistake which I'm sure you will be searching for.)

On another website, there is some guy rated in the 1500-1600s, who has played 3000+ games there and none (!) of them were drawn. How is this ever possible? There "must" have been at least a handful of games that resulted in dead drawn endgames?! A genuine question, I think.
Same goes for a +- 1000 rated player, he "must" have (been) stalemated before when he has played more than 1700 games, when he has been playing against peers of about the same strength over and over again. Perhaps this was the first time he happened to notice it?

Players in the 1000 rating region tend to make moves that are very far from perfect line move.
This greatly reduces the chances of a draw.
Notice the guy has only drawn 24 games having played over 1000.
What I don't like and believe this site should not encourage is elitest players posting patronizing comments about lowely rated players.
I'll take back the subscriber comment.
The same point still stands,
The guy asked a genuine question.
He got a great answer from the 2nd post in the thread.
People putting him down or making fun of him greatly devalues the point of this forum and puts people off asking genuine questions about games.
Thats why I suggest we either "give people some slack" or setup an elitest forum.

The message placed in this thread that you are concerned about, asks a question in a mildly condescending way indeed, but if I am correct, the person behind it is not a native speaker of the language, which might add to the misinterpretation of his message. I agree with you that sometimes (a bit too many times) "people" tend to be (and are allowed to be by the higher powers) a bit harsh in this forum for no real reason at all.
My example was intended as a "how is that ever possible" question as well, without placing the said player in a bad spotlight - I just find it remarkable that he never played a draw in more than 3000 games, as said above.
I had not checked up on how many games the thread starter had drawn, but indeed as you say, he really played a negligible amount of draws here, so the chances of there being a stalemate between those are not that high.

I apologise to the original poster if I have anyhow discouraged him to post questions.
Originally posted by Rooney Once a BlueI didn't see it as "putting the guy down" at all, just as a genuine question. I find it quite baffling myself that some people play lots and lots of games without ever improving or even learning all the rules. I am sure the vast majority of these players would be just as capable of improving as anybody else, they just seem to have a completely different approach to the game that is quite alien to me.
I really have to ask the question, why do you try and put the guy down when he asks a perfectly valid question for this forum?

The lad himself came back on and said he was happy with the comments.
I think 90% of the replies to these 'Please help me- I don't know the rules.' posts
are tognue in cheek anyway. Sometimes they are posted as a wind up.
There was one a few weeks back.
As for not getting any better after 1700 games. I suppose another
poster was correct when he said perhaps the lad just plays for the fun
and love of the game. (though his profile suggested he wants to improve).
If Rooney (I saw his first ever game for Everton) looks
back over previous threads he will find there has been a lot worse
fired at some poor soul who came on and asked a simple question.
As for subs v non-subs.
I think subsrcibers should have access to non-subs accounts so we
can go in and make moves in their games.........................(joke).

You seem to have chosen to ignore or missed the point I was trying to make.
The guy was asking an innocent question.
He chose the appropriate forum and got his answer.
Subsequent posts were a little elitist and enough to put someone off asking an "only chess" related question for fear of a player with much more experience takling down to them.
I've seen this before in threads on this forum and much worse cases.
I just thought that particilallly taking the context of the title of the thread into account it was an inappropriate post and enough to put him and others off asking other simple "only chess" related questions.
Your condemnation of my point of view highlights even more strongly to me that there should be a new forum for experienced players to use.
Originally posted by diskamylI appologize if you took my comments as a personal attack as it was not.

I just see fairly frequently in this forum highly rated players talking down a little to lower rated players.
If this continues to happen without moderation you will end up with a forum that people may be reluctent to use for fear of riddicule.

But sometimes it's the choice of words other players use that make
it seem they are talking down to a player. It's usually done
with the best intentions.
If someone gets to snotty then the other lads tend to bring him down
a peg or two. (as what is happening on another thread).
It's the nature of the Forum.
If you are under 1600 everyone thinks you are an idiot.
If you are over 2000 everyone thinks you are a cheat.
Stay in the 1700-1900 people ignore you then.

He disregarded me because my points didn't matter due to my rank.
First and foremost I find a lot of what greenpawn34(says) writes quite funny 🙂 humorous good stuff. I did not take what anyone wrote badly. It's true after 1700 games I should have known about that rule. My biggest problem is I think is I move way too fast and make very stupid moves. I bought a book called Chess for dummies I'm hoping this will help some. I never played as a kid or teen I wished now that I could have. While I know I will never be some grandmaster or something I enjoy the game of Chess.I don't get to play OTB much but it's a cool thing to be able to sit and play a game and have a few beers or coffee and not take it all too seriously. I find that most people on this site and in my experience at least most higher rated players will give you advice. The few that do ridicule others well it's easy behind a keyboard and monitor 1000's of miles away but who cares LOL you can call my mom something oh well 🙂 I will not lose much sleep over it. I do agree however even with all of the issues this site might have it's a cool site and I play for stress relief and fun 🙂
