Mind you against User 305843 5 seconds should be enough.
That was harsh DF lol. Anywhoo, It all depends. In the opening and simple endgames it's 5-15 seconds. Against inferior opposition (below 1500) it's also 5 seconds and it's also 5 seconds if I've been drinking. For other games It usually takes me 20-30 seconds to break down a position and 10 more to decide on a move. I do get into a few crazy games where I take 5 minutes amove or more (i.e. .Game 2186182 - in progress no comments).
Those rated 100-200 points higher than me are the most likely to receive the full blown serious treatment.

depends on the position, sometimes 5 seconds is sufficient, cos the move is forced, developing, or blatently obvious. On 2 occasions here on RHP - I actually went home and set the position up on my chess board and played through it!
about 5min-2 days in the opening, 15min-1 week otherwise. sometimes more if I feel there is a win in the air. I try to avoid moving within the hour I see the opponent's move. I also try very hard not to move drunk or tired, sometimes failing. most of my blunders happen when I move tired...
I never move in 5 seconds.
Originally posted by wormwoodAgreed. I have made some terrible blunders when tired. In fact almost all my bad moves happen last thing at night (midnight to 1am) or when moving whilst working (which I can do as I am self employed). Especially bad blunders happen when I have an "easy" win and want to finish it off quickly.

The worst blunders happen when drunk at work late at night.......
