I always hated giving up the e-pawn in that scenario for at least the reason I felt like I was rewarding them for prematurely moving their queen. However, you make good points and I will look at this scenario differently.

6...Nxe4 doesn't look bad either.
By the way, I checked the 365chess database and it doesn't have white 5.Qb3. I found that curious. Maybe 5.Qb3 is a craap move.

Looks like your solution(s) for black are good. At first glance, I wonder if white is forced to do 6.Qd3 instead of 6.Qc3 (because of the threat of 6 . . . Nxe4). And I guess white cannot do 6.Bxf7+ as he loses the bishop.

What about the black d5 pawn push 5 . . . d5 a move earlier instead of posting the knight? Probably not.

I've just finished this game:

Game 8586774

I'm very proud of 8... Rg8, although stockfish plays Nd6. I didn't even consider this move... I was about to play Be6, but then noticed Rg8. I also considered Nc5. What do you think?

Yes, it is. White loses material according to Stockfish. I'd like to have this mastered.

This has turned out to b a worthwhile thread.

The OP asks about punishing early Queen sorties.

Picks up and by the looks of it actually heeds some of the of the given advice.
Then produces the perfect example. Good Game.

Thank you. It's reassuring, but I know this game isn't really indicative of anything. My opponent played very badly and I had hours and days to think. I was about to make a bad move at least twice. I would be unable to do this over the board. :-( Anyway, I hope I've learned something.

Once you understand that idea you'll be able to pull it off, even otb.

Of course once your board vision develops and you see problems more easily, your rating will increase and you won't see people bring out their queens early anymore.

I haven't seen it for quite some time.

That's what they want you to think! Do it - reward them for bringing their queen out early, then punish them for taking the bait.

Here's another one. It also started before I started this thread.

6. e4 was a mistake (I think) -- I just forgot about this knight and bishop thing. Move 10. was difficult for me. Could you please tell me what was better, Re1 or Bd3? I also thought very much about move 13. I wasn't sure I analyzed all possibilities after d5 and was thinking maybe Be4 would be safer. I finally decided to move the pawn, because I thought I knew what my opponent would do and I was right. 🙂

I'm not that sure that 13. Be4 is safer. That way you expose the pawn on c4 to an attack, and that makes it easier for the queen to escape or start a new attack. So, I guess d5 is better.

EDIT: I now realize that the bishop on b7 gets under attack after the queen moves away. So forget what I said above...

This post is an excellent example of how computers can expand our thinking and make us consider moves we otherwise would have overlooked, at any level.

I would find it very helpful if folks started posting their games with early queens here. That would be perhaps too much effort if it were just for me, but maybe others will find it helpful too?
