Is there a way to change the rating for rybka without making it replaced by the king engine? It annoys me that rybka's rating is set to 0 in Chessmaster and then Chessmaster complains that I lost to an easiest opponent after I play with rybka.
Okay, another problem. I am running 64-bit Vista edition and wanted to install the multiprocessor 64-bit version of Rybka 3 in Chessmaster by following the instructions here. Well, rybka doesn't work in Chessmaster and when I click on the Task Manager, I see that there are a lot of rybka 32.exe processes running, even though I put Rybka 3 64-bit (Rybka 3.exe) in the uci2wb folder. I renamed adapter.exe to rybka.exe. So, does anyone know what the problem is?

if you have a quad, it should be 4 rybka exe's running in the task manager. and Rybka32.exe is probably the name that you have set for the adapter to use.
I don't know what you mean by "rybka doesn't work" though. what version of CM are you using? anything less from the last (11) version doesn't support multiprocessors.
and I wouldn't recommend trying too hard with CM for multiprocessor UCI engines with 64 bit support. CM is lousy (and not even designed) for things like that.

Why does Chessmaster beat Rybka after I added Rybka to Chessmaster? Did I do anything wrong? I clicked on "Import Winboard Engine", imported Rybka, got the message the adding was successful. But when I choose Rybka to play against Chessmaster, Chessmaster beats it every time and there was a draw one time. Did I do anything wrong? Rybka is the strongest engine in the world.
As the resident cheating EXPERT and chess program EXPERT, I must add my 2 cents. I am quite familiar with chessmaster and have a connection at Mattel Interactive who helped me rewrite some of Chessmaster's code to strengthen it. The main reason that chessmaster ALWAYS wins is because there is a code embedded deep in the progamming that give THE KING priority over any other engine, thus deactivating Rybka's brain. Even when it's Rybka's turn and it appears to be thinking, IT'S NOT. Chessmaster (The King) is actually thinking on Rybka's time. There are two ways to remedy this. 1) Use 2 computers, Rybka on one, CM on the other, or 2) disable pondering/thinking.
Ah good - clever computer people.
I use the bare Winboard, (no computer program with it.) to post
games and positions on here.
However, everytime I open it up it stops and wants to me to load in
a chess program. I don't want a chess program running with it.
So I have to click the same radio button (see I know the jargon)
again and again and again.
I can live with it, but it is annoying and it may be dropping error reports
on one of the IT's boys desk.
(I also use it at work instead of the naff analysis board for my games on here)
Is there a wee line of code I can drop in the Winboard .ini to stop this
from happening?

These only differ in the command line options they supply to the winboard.exe (e.g. -ncp or -ics). What are you running with? Check the properties of the winboard shortcut you're using. There's no need to edit winboard.ini.
Originally posted by greenpawn34I'm not sure how clever I am, but I think I have the answer to your question. Try adding the /ncp switch to the command line in your shortcut. I'm not sure if this works in all versions, but it works in the version I use (4.3.14). "ncp" stands for "no chess program". I don't think it can be fixed from the winboard.ini file.

For example, in my shortcut, I changed the original command line from:
"C:\Program Files\Winboard 4_3_14\winboard.exe"
(the quotes above are actually in my command line)
to:
"C:\Program Files\Winboard 4_3_14\winboard.exe" /ncp
btw, I don't think it was sending any error messages to anyone other than your own eyeballs. 🙂
Edit - Rats, Varenka beat me to it. grrrr 🙂
Good shout.
Tried editing the shortcut key - no joy. It would not allow /ncp
So added /ncp to first line of .ini - it worked.....once.
The second time it asked about computers again.
So added /ncp to first and last line in .ini - saved it - change properties
to 'read only' and now it working without asking for a box all the time - super-dupes.
I'll remember that /ncp line - perhaps Russ could send every account
/ncp then we would have no cheats.
Edit 1.
Just noticed Varenka's post - it's WInboard 4.2.3 and everytime 'I used to'
fire it up a pop-up appeared asking me to load in an engine,
go on the net and search for an engine, or just edit a game.
Now all is fine - cheers boys.
Oops, my bad; it appears I made a mistake. So now the rybka3 engine is working in Chessmaster.
Cheater1, yes, I disabled pondering for rybka 3 engine. It's okay to leave pondering on for the king engine if I want both engines to run correctly in Chessmaster? It seems to me they co-exist just fine now.
