Game 5399552

I played the dullest game ever and I did nothing but play for the draw from the get-go, so call me a chicken if you like, but I'm still a little proud of myself. When I started playing here not that long ago, I figured I'd be lucky to crack 1400. Not sure why, but I've played much better than I ever thought I would here.

Just one question: On move 15, should I have played 15... Bg7 and tried to make him keep the isolated d pawn or allow me a well placed bishop after a queen trade or was it smarter to play it safe with 15... e6 and make sure he doesn't get a rook to the 7th rank?

it looks like it was greenpawn who was going for the draw.

Karpov would win the final position as white.

I know I have a plus in the ending and I know players
who would simply love to play the White side of this ending.

I'm not one of them. If you look at my drawn games you will
see I'm not adverse to agreeing draws in possibly won endgames
on here.

There were other games to play, other traps to set.

My theme for this game was legal moves spot and punish the blunder.
The lad avoided blunders - simple chess. He played well.

I'm actually flattered that this draw appears to have made his day
and he classed me as a scalp.

Also, that game that you posted a few weeks ago where you threw away a bishop by moving it to h3 (or was it h6?) with no protection against a fianchettoed bishop just to get it off the long diagonal and then used the open diagonal to drive home a big attack (I forget which thread the game was in) had me a bit intimidated (not to mention some of the other traps you post from time to time). I was thinking "I'll never get a sniff off a guy who can think of a move like that." That really is the main reason I'm so proud to have drawn the game. In any case, I meant it as a compliment and I'm glad you took it so. 🙂

do you mean that? I can see white has a slight advantage due to the weak pawn, but I failed to come up with a plan. the one I was thinking was play g3, Rd2 to solidify the kingside pawns, and try to move the king all the way up to e6 somehow.

but black won't simply stop and watch, and get his king around the weakness much faster, and I know that the above plan is so unrealistic 🙂. If there is any plan to realize the "advantage" that could be put in words for white here, please do so.

greenpawn can only draw one conclusion from this match.
Do not play players with a provisional rating 😀
