I discovered the key here to consistently getting good games is to register so you can join a clan.

I have been looking for a game with a 1600+ player for the past week. I have created an open invite with a very clear title. Like "1600+ ONLY! GAME WILL BE DELETED IF BELOW 1600!" and all manners of other titles. Not one player met the requirments. I have thus been forced to delete over 25 games. It seems people here can't fing read and I'm becoming reall ...[text shortened]... 00 and above? This is driving me crazy. I hope this site has this very elementary feature.
Seriously though, if you subscribe you won't have that problem anymore. I guarantee it. In fact, I'm so willing to promote subscriptions that I'll even play you a 2 game match (rated or unrated - your choice) if you join. 🙂
Originally posted by WulebgrYea, I gave up the Sicilian because of the Rossolimo. Not because it was good, it's not particularly, but it is just boring. In another venue I must have played 25 straight Sicilians without an open Sicilian.
Don't comment on a game in progress. But, you should know that the Sicilian is nothing to fear. Just play the Rossolimo--Sicilian players hate that.
I love playing against the Sicilian, but I rarely play 1.e4 because I'm afraid of the French. 😉
A word for white players: If you want to play e4, learn to play the open Sicilian. You are not playing e4 to avoid the best double edged games on the planet. Sure there is a chance to lose, but the chance to draw is minimal. It is still the best way to keep your initial edge. And you still have the advantage statistically even so. If you don't want to play against the Sicilian, play d4. Good white players are not going to play the Rossolimo...

Originally posted by MotownDaveI don't think it's about avoiding double edged games; what draws most white players away from the open Sicilian is the sheer amount of theory you need to memorize in order to play it decently; learning it all is a task comparable to graduating from college or buying your own house. 🙄

I agree it's the best way to keep the initial edge, but I don't think it's worth the trouble unless you're playing at a high level. If you can get good winning chances against your average opponent with something like the Rossolimo or the Alapin, playing the open Sicilian is counterproductive.
