It can't. But this might come close

I'm rather disappointed that Michael Jackson didn't own a chess set where the fifty-year old MJ is the White king and the twelve-year old MJ is the Black king (and perhaps Elizabeth Taylor as the White queen).
(I've deleted what I thought the pawns could be as I remembered that 13 year olds and younger read these forums).

Still, other rules apply in Cali-phoney-a. Chacun À son goût

(I loved the way the shopkeeper rubbed his hands together when Jackson was buying his entire stock of gaudy rubbish. He must have thought that all his Christmases had come at once!)

Some nice traps on here. (Derek & Victor are RHP members.)

Interestingly, the last two beginner chess sets that I looked at in the local book stores here had the box photos taken with the board set up wrong (white square on left). I haven't actually documented this, but I suspect that they get it wrong about 75 percent of the time - 50 percent would be strictly by chance alone. I really do think it's a world-wide conspiracy to drive me insane. (OK, completely insane) 🙂
But he does have his own chess set.

All the hype about MJ's gaudy set got me to thinking... Did MJ ACTUALLY play chess? Did he even know how the pieces move? (I had my doubts. I can't imagine MJ having the patience to learn a game like chess.)
Well, here's the proof. The Chessbase link below posts a Youtube clip of MJ teaching his 3-year old son the game of chess. (Never mind whether he was really trying to teach a 3-year old the moves.) The clip is very endearing, but please note that the board is STILL set up the wrong way. HaHaHaHaHaHaHa.........
And I can't believe that neither ET (OK, I CAN believe that) nor Chessbase News caught this...

It's not uncommon to see the board the wrong way in works of art
where chess is being depicted.
In the 1950's the Edinburgh C.C. ordered 10 tables with inlaid boards.
No instructions were given about 'white on the right' and by chance
only 3 came back the wrong way round.
The club minutes record that the tables were corrected at no extra cost.
Woody Allan plays chess in one of his films with the board around the
way. He say's he did on purpose so chess players would know he was
a keen chess player. (which he is).
Woody Allen quote:
"I failed to make the school chess team because of my height."

I just viewed that clip and Applehead's first move seems to be a1-a3,a pawn on a1 jumping over the pawn on a2.His second move would be Nb1-c4.
My guess is the kid wanted to play with those shiny figures and the tv people make it appear as if Michael's teaching his son to play chess because that makes a better story.
Reminds me of my little one who used to put two pieces on top of each other,a rook + any other piece, making it a super-something that wipes the board clean and explodes in the end.
Originally posted by Winston SmithThe kid's moves, and whether MJ was actually teaching his son or not are immaterial. The point I was trying to make is that MJ incorrectly set up his board and set in his own house. 🙂

I just wanted to add other things I noticed.
