Forgive my ignorance, but what is a chess engine exactly?

Edit: Nevermind, I googled it. What fun would chess be if a computer told you what moves to make?

I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who got it....LOL...I don't use a database, book openings , or even have a chess engine on my computer....!!! Before any0ne asks....Yes, probably a reason my game stinks !!!

Well there was this one time when I dropped a pawn on his head, but really, it's not like you could tell the difference. He wasn't the brightest pawn in the pack to begin with!

I just didn't see the need for it, when we have already agreed to it when we became paying members of this site !!! It seemed to me we are being asked to confirm something, that we have already agreed too???
