But learning openings is learning chess and the openings are a really good place to begin because it's so much more comprehensible. You can explain to someone why the move e4 is better than a4 and the proof of this is easy to communicate to someone new to chess.
What better place to start learning to read notation than the first few moves. What better plac ...[text shortened]... so that ideas about things like pawn structure and strategy can be properly understood.
