Someone in the same group as me in the Thor Grouped Random tournament managed this:

I found this interesting position that gives an alternate meaning to "pawn only" at another chess site:

White's move.

improbable but not impossible, same with two knights.

just cause its not possible to force mate doesnt mean that it is impossible to get it anyway if your opponent blunders

ok so it has to be a pretty serious blunder but it might happen

you can't checkmate with two knights, mca. best you can do is force stalemate.

Read the thread. Examples have been given.

I have checkmated with a pawnmove, the pawn was the only thing on the board besides the 2 kings 🙂

The example is bogus....try to play back blacks previous move.....he was in check/stalemate. You can set the board up so that a bare king is in mate by two knights, but you CAN'T GET THERE in a real game.

although it is impossible to force this position it IS possible to get here if black allows it by playing a few bad moves.

i am at work and dont have time to go through it just now - but if no-one else has shown how it can be done by the time i get home tonight, ill go through it for ya.

I had one opponent resign rather than let me play e7#. I then missed the same mate a month later in another game (I was way up material and just queened a pawn).

The above checkmate position can be legally obtained through the following last moves: Ne6-f8 g7-g6 Ne7xg6#. No need to explain that the starting position can also occur in a real game. The black king has a free corridor.

White's move. Mate in two, with one bad move by black.
