A Knight on the rim is grim.
I'll go with bd7

On the other hand there are many openings with the Horsey riding to the edge of the board, ie like the KID with the early deviation 6.h3 in which Kasparov with the Black was replying with ...Na6. However in our case the white B will drive to e3, where he will become a liability for the White, or he will land on d3 in order to press furthermore (surely 10.Bb3 is not at all an option for the White). In fact, a possible line is 9. ...Na5 10.Bd3 a6 11.0-0 Bd7 12.b4 Nc6 13.Nxc6 Bxc6 and the Black is equal and with fine offensive options.
So my dear friends, just for a change I will back up the foxy tomtom232, which BTW he cannot speak Siksika, and I vote 9. ...Na5;
Just popped in to blitz 90 moves. 🙂
I might as well vote.
9. ... Bd7 10. 0-0-0 Here black usually plays for Nc4.
10. ... Rc8 11.Bb3 Ne5 12.h4 is one way for black to play.
Here black can play 12. ... Nc4 which last time I analyzed this was risky. There is a famous Karpov-Korchnoi Dragon slaying. 12. ...h5 is the Soltis variation. Tony Miles had some nice games with this if I'm not mistaken. I think 13. Bg5 Rc5 is/was the main line.
10. ... Qa5 is another option (advocated by Ward). The idea is 11.h4 Rfc8 (keeping a rook on a8). It is very sharp and very risky.
10. ... Qb8 with b5 in mind is an interesting pawn sac idea. I don't think it is completely sound though.
There are many other variations as well.
The Soltis may well be best.
My vote is
9. ... Bd7
Be back later. 🙂

Btw, I play the two knights defense so I do put my knight on the rim as black. I just didn't see the wisdom in such a move at this time.

I didn't mean to come off as insulting(at least towards you. I was insulting that stupid principle) but I am tired of all these misleading catchy phrases that don't allow the people who blindly follow them to have an open mind. 9...Bd7 is an obvious move
9...Na5 has many positive aspects, the main one being the prevention of the bishop going to b3 where it likes to sit often times.
