The Bb5 sicilian has been around for ages. And you don't need to worry!!! There are bunches of books on it but what i was taught always was: Instead of nf6 play nc6 and if Bb5, Na5! It'll throw them off real good. You're threatening a6 followed by b5. =D

BTW, this is my opinion on Bb5 users against the Sicilian, you are LAZY. Your stupid little pet move has ruined HOURS of study I have put forth into the Sicilian, stuff you ppl are too lazy to learn, and that just peeves me off. Sorry, I'm very frustrated how this one little move has RUINED days of work by ppl too lazy to work as hard as me. . .

Yeah, and I'm filled with anger. I swear to god, if I EVER go back to school, and I find out ANY kid who's beating me grade wise by studying less then me, I am BEATING THE CRAP OUTTA HIM! I'm literally gonna say, "hey jackass, I work so much harder then you and I'm sick of you making me and others feel like shiat because you get better grades with no effort, you deserve crap you spoiled little prick." Then I'll throw a few punches, I swear, it will be war. I'm afraid to get into OTB chess for much the same reason, because not just the peices will do the fighting in that case.

You would hate me then. I managed to get through 5 years of high school on a scholarship without doing an iota of work that I didn't want to do. That was most of it. Came out with pretty good grades (pending on my final exam marks).
However that's just one thing. I happen to have the gift of absorbing information easily and being able to spout it at the correct time. Other things don't come easily to me. At the beginning of this year I was struggling with my weight. I was unhappy with how I looked and how I felt. I've since managed to get down to a point where I feel a lot more comfortable. It was really hard work. I struggled for every kg I dropped. Does that mean I have the right to beat up people who naturally have a perfect body?

I don't like you. I don't like your attitude. I don't like how you feel the world owes you a favour. It doesn't. If you posted a thread about this line of the Sicilian saying something along the lines of

"I'm having trouble playing against this line of the Sicilian. Here are the games I've played against it. Can someone give me some quick analysis of them and maybe what the general ideas for both sides are in the opening?"

I would have jumped to help you, just like I have when other people have made posts along a similar vein. Many others would too. It's like a free chess lesson. You would get ideas and input from many good players whose styles vary greatly.

However instead you post this thread which balloons to 3 pages of argument and very little constructive input. You've done it before and people have made this same comment. Learn from your mistakes and do it right next time.

I've faced the Rossolimo variation against the Sicilian playing in a simul against an IM. I would hardly call him lazy.

But many Sicilian players are booked up, so certain forcing variations are adopted by players wishing to avoid the theory of their opponents. Jeremy Silman puts it clearly in his review of Murray Chandler's video on the Rosolimo:

"Think of it this way: The game starts 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6. You look in your opponent's eyes and see that he's excited about using some pet system after the usual 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4. What might that be? He could hit you with 4.e5, which is far from easy for White to meet. Or he might try the Taimanov Variation with 4.e6. Other common tries are 4.g6 (my favorite Accelerated Dragon), 4.Qb6, and 4.Nf6 5.Nc3 when both 5.d6 and 5.e5 are lead-ins to endless streams of theory. The problem for White is that you don't know what line Black will choose, so you MUST be well prepared to meet ALL of these systems. Your opponent, on the other hand, knows what he intends to do and just needs to learn that one variation.

All this passes through your mind after 2.Nc6, but you have no intention whatsoever of entering his prepared lines. Instead, you dash out 3.Bb5 and watch his face morph from excitement to disappointment. Suddenly he's in YOUR preparation, YOUR system."

Then you are talking to me then...I love using that as a wrench from time to time in a Sicilian. Call it lazy if you like. I prefer to think of it as laziness on your part. Not everyone plays the open line. I usually prefer a more closed line because I find most people are uncomfortable working around traffic.

And don't get me wrong, I highly commend your "HOURS of study," but you are going to have to face the fact that study is preparing for every kind of people, not just against those who play the longest, most complicated lines.

For a guy in highschool that's a very mature post. Heck, for ANYONE that's a mature post.

Well done.

So what? You have a good memory, you are thus good at school and this equals SUCCESS GUARANTEED IN THE CAPITALIST WORLD WITH NO EFFORT, why are you complaining? You've got it easy, so EASY, so what if you want to shed 10 pounds? You're puting things out of proportion, my situation is much more tragic then yours, I an condemned to poverty, while you are guaranteed to riches.

Mateulose,

You're currently the #378th rated player on this site. That puts you in the top 10% of players on the entire site. I'd say you're already a damn fine chess player. I know you study a lot and yes chess is hard for you. It's hard for everyone. Yes, it comes easier to some people too. So what? There are lots of things that come easy to some people and not others. Everybody has certain talents Mat, and we ALL have certain failings. That's just the way life is.

Keep playing, keep studying, but enjoy it. Don't sweat over a chess game Mat. So you lose every now and then. EVERYBODY loses.

Despite all of your complaints about your chess you must still be enjoying it or you wouldn't still be here.

As for the rest of your post, you have no idea if someone has it easy or not in life. Judging others that you know almost nothing about always leads to the wrong conclusions. I know almost nothing about your situation in your personal life. Judging you on that little tiny bit of information would bring me to the wrong conclusion. Dismissing someone because of their concern over their weight is unjustly belittling to them. What seems trivial to you may be VERY important to someone else. So please don't do that. Nothing good comes from it.

I hope you'll take some people up on their offers to assist you and talk chess with you. Despite the fact that you tend to get into a lot of arguments on the forums there are still lots of people here that will analyze/discuss chess with you all day/every day if you'd like. These forums are a great resource.

I don't want to be critical here, so don't take any of what I posted that way. I just want you to stop criticizing yourself. You're a very good player, but you are by far your toughest critic and opponent.

Good luck bro.

I'm not complaining. That's the point. Some things are easy. Most things are hard. It takes work to get better at the hard things. Sometimes it takes more work than it would other people.
BTW I'm not talking 10 pounds. Try close to 45 pounds.

And do you think I have a hot looking body? Seesh, your argument seems so superficial. Look around you, all the rich dudes are fat, ugly, and old, and the women love them, women don't care about looks, they go after money, get your facts right.

I was using an example to show that everyone has things they find hard and things they find easier. Stop fixating on the details and look at the message.
I play the Sicilian as black. I love the Dragon and the Volga Attack especially but I've slowly learnt to play passably in many types of closed systems. I used to curse silently when 2. Nc3 (or 2. c3 etc.) was played against me. Now I see it as a chance to learn something.
As for that one move wasting all your hours of prep. Here's what I think. You wasted the prep time not your opponent. When you start learning a system learn the early variations before the deep variations. Say starting to learn the Sicilian. First learn the closed, the Smith-Morrah and the Open to a decent depth. Then slowly increase your knowledge as you encounter them. This way you don't learn huge reams of material you never encounter at your level (say because a particular move is never played) and you learn to the greatest depth in your most played positions. You had the mistake of knowing you wanted to play the Taimanov and learning that first when really that will only ever make up a portion of your Sicilian games.
