Alopinto has some serious dedication to internalizing this stuff. I hope I take the time for that level of study at some point. But, I think the most valuable aspect of CC for me so far has been multiple simultaneous games and tooling about on Analyze Board. I think the extension of my spatial view of the board and its strategies come from volume. I don't win every game, though. If that were my goal it'd be different.

Wow! I guess Alpotino doesn't have 150 games in progress or else he'd have to rent a room at the book store.

actually that U thing happened to me during an english essay once a long time ago in the days of ICQ....i wrote U and i knew it was wrong but couldn't figure out what the correct spelling was...after a good several minutes it hit me that it was you....anyways back to this discussion....

I'm not saying the anlaysis button is bad. its great and helps u check over variations...i'm just saying that u shouldnt' be to dependent on it, because when u play in person for prizes, and ratings and stuff u won't have that to help u... u'll have to do it all in u're head... its just like doing hw with the solutions right infront of u... it might help u then, but during an exam u won't have the solutions.... Personally i go through the varations in my head as far as i can and then check them with the analysis button to see if missed anything.... any yes it has made me play more positional stuff

I just print the diagram, go to Borders (a library with a cafe), set up my board and clock myself 30 minutes while drinking coffee... Otherwise I go back to Borders and think about the position one more time...
Wow. That is an incredible amount of effort put into the game.

Thank God no! 😲 I don't! I couldn't handle more than 20 at the same time. I play slow time control games to be able to review my games at a slow pace. Since I have seen that quality is sacrificed with quantity I have chosen to play less games...

If you think about it, you will see that I am not devoting much more time than the kiddo that's in front of the computer with the analyze board. Typically I will bash the first 10-15 moves from databases and books. Since I consistently use the same openings all the time this is a no brainer. Of course, sometimes I am beaten at the opening because my opponent unleashed something unexpected or totally unkown to me and I just scramble for an extra 5-10 moves until I capitulate (I don't waste my opponents' time...) These are examples of some of my defeats on the opening:

Game 854461

Game 854459

But, as usual, a defeat here at redhotpawn spells as a win elsewhere and these two games taught me valuable lessons...

The transition to the middlegame is what takes me longer and that's when I go to Borders after work or during weekends. If I have experience with the position the game will flow more easily and I will move faster.

But let's talk about objectives and goals in playing CC:

i'm just saying that u shouldnt' be to dependent on it, because when u play in person for prizes, and ratings and stuff u won't have that to help u...

Is a perspective I agree with and the exercise of going through specific games over the board, calculating in your head under time constraints is more closely related to OTB conditions and increases the pleasure of playing CC 🙂

My objective in playing CC is to refine my opening systems and to better understand the middlegame positions that stem from those openings. I don't want to play a million games simultaneously because it will defeat my objective of learning openings and understanding ideas. I respect generalists that will play almost anything against you (1.a3, 1.b4, 1.c3, 1.Nf3, etc.) because those people have a different aim in mind but not me!

Very interesting thread...

Thats why i'm here...to learn my openings better, and see what kinds of position arise from them and the general plans...

after going through one game, the opening is stuck into my head and then the next time i see the same opening i know what to play and don't have to check in a database anymore....
