It was called the Manhattan Dodge about 3 centuries before the
Swiss Gambit was invented.
The Spanish Monk Ruy Lopez mentions it in his book written in 1561
"Libro de la invención liberal y arte del juego del Axedrez."
trans = "Play the Ruy Lopez and Win".
Hi Hintjul
What you speak is 20th century Spanish, that book was written
in 15th century 'Krypto Spanish' of which I am a world expert.
On the back cover of the book is an advert for 'My System' by Nimzovitch.
It's genuine, it must be. I bought for £5,000 on EBAY.
Just logged onto the live game site:

All the other games are plodding along nicley.
But board 3 Vanderwaeren -v- Rooze is showing.
I hope it's a fault with the electronic board and nothing has happened to Serge.

Round 8 tomorrow Serge is white -v- Barbier (2147).
He is ½ a point behind the leaders and has yet to play anyone
higher graded than him. Tomorrow is the 2nd last round!
The Manhattan Dodge works.
And I'm not complaining. I always took a first round draw bye on weekenders.
I recommend it.
You can look forward too a couple of 'easy' games on the Saturday
and because you did not play on a Friday night you were nice and fresh.
Sunday morning was always my 'bread and butter' round catching
the sleepy heads with an opening trap.
That just left the toughie for the last game.
Came through on that about 50-50.
Verhaeren (2014) - Serge Rd.7 Belgium Open 2011
Today Serge won in 12 moves on the Black side of an Alekhine-Chathard Attack.
Good Luck tomorrow Serge.
Originally posted by greenpawn34I sympathize- I have a particular weakness for missing backward knight moves. It used to really make me angry, but now I just laugh at my stupidity.

Well done Serge.
Point made and thread closed. 😏

much specualtion about the puzzling game:

Which was agreed a draw in this position.
