Originally posted by buddy2Thanks for the input on that buddy, I won't be wasting any money on that one. By the way, I read some criticism here at RHP about Roman Dzindzichasvilli's video series, and elected not to buy it. My wife turned around and got them for me for my birthday...the critics were right!
I have the Squares Strategy by Bangiev. It is hopelessly repetitive and suffers from an apparently incompetent translator. that's my criticism in a nutshell.
Yea, Igot one of those Roman videos and besides its annoying narrator, who kept repeating that he was Karpov's trainer, the excerpts taught me nothing. One of his pet phrases was, "And black eez already lozt." I felt like screaming at the tv, "Well, what happened? How did his lost come about?" But unfortunately, I got no answer. I like the concept of dvd/vcr teaching. It gets my nose out of books and I think you retain more, but it's hard as hell to get a competent narrator. I'm presently looking at the new dvd by Kasparov on the queen's gambit, which I'll give my opinioins on later.
I have Roman's 4 dvd series on openings, where he 'explains' 40 well-known openings.Laugh out loud funny! It usually goes something like this: "We will now look at(insert opening name).Would I recommend this?NO!I would not!But if you really insist on playing it,I'll show you a line that is somewhat playable,if you really, really must." He then shows a line or 2,and ends with "If you want to know more about this opening, buy a book, there are many excellent books out there"
Gee,I thought that's why I bought these dvd's ROFL
In all fairness,I must add that the lines he gives are intresting,it's just that I expected a bit more. It's not like you'll be able to successfully play an opening solely relying on the info on these dvd's.
I also have his 'mastering chess series',vol 1-4.Those are very good in content,IMO,but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired.
