So you've done it at least 10 times then? 😛

I just saw the title of the thread - I have not read any of the
the other posts. Don't even know if you still talking about
the same subject - you know how you wander from subject to subject
irrespective of the thread.

To Sac or Not to Sac.

Always sac. You are in a no lose situation.

If you win then you bathe in the glory.

If you lose - Well everyone loves a trier.

Meanwhile your opponent is either a dope for not defending
correctly against an unsound sac.

Or he is looked upon as a materialist wood grabber without
an original thought in his skull.

No joy for him. Lot's of fun for you and no endings to play.

We are talking about unsound sacs - are we?

I don't know - I never read the thread.

I think you will find when most players sac the Queen they
will have it all worked out, as I did(??), in this following game.
I'm White - It was played in 1994 in the Edinburgh Chess Club.

I agree with that. I was playing blitz chess with a friend of mine on Thursday. He is a manic attacking player and sacs whenever he can. I won about half the games, which is excellent for me as he normally wins the vast majority. However all my wins were tidying up when his attack had failed, whereas all of his were spectacular mates a piece or more down.

Some spectators chatted to us after a game I had won and said that they could tell my friend was by far the best player and that I had been lucky. They didn't seem to appreciate the skill I had shown to find a dozen or so accurate defensive moves in a row!

A case in point - the game I showed above was a five minute game
v A.F.W. a 2100 player. I had been saccing all night and won one
in every 6. This one is preserved in my wee note book.

The Queen sac is actually my own OTB invention - 6...Nxd4 is a known
line but 6...Ng4 is meant to better for Black.

Play me in the blitz room,I sac my queen in the opening and win approx.80% of the time. This is because my blitz rating averages 2400 on sites like Instantchess and ICC.Most players think they have the game automatically in hand simply because they are up a queen.
How wrong they are!First of all positional tactics must be mastered and applied against me,especially since I set my time to usually no more than 3 minutes, and occassionally 4 minutes tops.In other words, its harder to mate a very strong player in only 3 minutes without your clock running out.Its amazing to me how many players let their "guard"down, because they think they are playing a beginner and actually take alittle more time in the game, causing alot of time outs for themselves.I do not play any long games on this site because i'm mostly involved in OTB or for internet play I do prefer GameKnot for all my long games. Thus,my 1200p is my advantage on this site for blitz.

In the blitz games I play these days I'm always looking to see if I can sac material to blow open pawn formations. It's just sooo much fun! This is a 5 min blitz game I just played.

Yes my opponent blundered and no I'm still not 100% sure the knight sac was sound, but I was playing for that idea for at least 4 or 5 moves and it just feels great when you make it stick.

The question is how do you do the second time you play the same person? I don't think it was you (there was another player on RHP blitz who used to play e4, Qh5 and then Qxf7+), but I played a guy who sacced his queen on f7. As you said, I figured he was a beginner or drunk or something and I didn't pay attention and I lost the game. the next day, I played the same guy and this time I consolidated, played defensively, traded where I could and won the game easily. The element of surprise is probably why you're able to win games from a queen down (or almost a queen down).

The sac looks quite reasonable to me. Perhaps Qf3 first is better, but that's just a nuance. You get two pawns and permanent K-side pressure for the piece, that's plenty enough to have fun with.
