I find it very unreal that it is possible for someone to beat fritz, that is amazing!
can anyone tell me how that game would have most likely finished?
34. ... Kf8
35. Qh6+ Kg8
36. Bb7 or c6
with the threat of 37.Rg6+! (if 37...hxg6 38.Qh8 is mate)
I think Black has to give back the exchange, after which he is clearly losing.
I've had a look at a few of his games. Although his mid-game could be very good, there doesn't seem to be anything flash about it. Nothing more than building up for an advantage in the end-game. This would seem possible to beat fritz, if you could get the machine trading off pieces in one area while really you are concentrating on a slight advantage in another area. Maybe fritz is overly hungry and has trouble multi-tasking?
Oh how I wish I was good enough to make it my toy....

Wow! What an amazing game. 22...c5 is a typical computer move because it goes after the win of material. Weyerstrass had to judge the position after giving up the exchange and his positional assessment was correct.
What an amazing game, Weyer sacrificed the rook because he takes over the hole at e5, and takes over the open file, and it doesnt cost him anything because Fritz would have to give back the rook to avoid Weyer's mating threat. Brilliant!
Originally posted by XanthosNZI think it has more to do with Weyer being more of a strategic player than a tactical player, he plays two openings that are designed for players with strong stragetic skills, the french defence and the english are designed to keep tactics limited, as the centre is usually closed. If you wanna see someone thats flashy, Akizy is more your guy, the Sicilian and e4 are alot more flashy than the english and the french defence. Its more his style, hes less agressive than Akizy. Which is why hes undefeated, but has a higher # of draws.
