For me, since I opened with 1.d4, I play 2.c4 in response to 1. ...e6, since I'm looking for a QP opening. Seems like 1. ...e6 gives white too many options for the game.
oh contrare!
with 1. ... e6

black can have the French Defense after 2. e4
I don't like the French, but to someone who's good with it, they might enjoy playing it against a Queen's Pawn user
after 2. c4, Black can go: eenie meenie minie mo between 2. ... f5
the Dutch Defense
2. ... Nf6 with the Nimzo Indian
2. ... c6 with a Semi-Slav
2. d5 with a QGD

1. ... e6 eems more flexible for black than white. especially against an opponent who wants to keep it Queen's Pawn with 2. c4

i don't play e6 also known as French Defence, because i've got poor results with that opening, and failed to equalize the game, but there are GM's (Nigel Short, Teimour Radjabov,Alexander Morozevich) that like this move.

Never tried that opening i'm replying to " grantaylor " , but prefer either the Queen's Indian Defense (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 b6 ) or the Nimzo-Indian Defense (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 )
