Lol, we have a player who always arrives drunk for his games...his opponents and the TD really appreciate it...

I haven't noticed a correlation in my games. I blunder alot no matter whose board I'm playing on!

I had some more fun on the Chess Tactics Server and finally got to 1400. 😉 It seems that with one hour of practice each day, I can easily climb 10-15 points each time.

The tourney is Saturday and Sunday. The first one is G/45 and the second is G/90, any other advice? I really appreciate the help.

BTW: Should I bring my own board?

Good luck with the tourney. The one I'm in this Sat is 40/80, 15/30 continuous (these are old school time controls).

I enjoy playing more when I bring my own chess set and clock but don't like to get too comfortable playing on any one board. In other words, I don't want to get wrapped up in paying too much attention to the pieces.

Thanks, but is it customary to bring your own board?

Well, I didn't see BYOB written anywhere in the tourney descriptions, but I assume that they assumed that I would assume that I should BMOB. :p I'll do that, just to be on the safe side.

BTW: Yes, I know BYOB can stand for a lot of things... but "Bring Your Own Bomb"?...

Now, how about someone actually answers my question. Forget the acronyms and give me a straight answer.

What kind of tournament is it? With less than a week, you should focus on getting comfortable with the time control if you haven't already. It might be already too late if it isn't rapid. Usually what I would do is just stop training. Your not going to improve significantly within a week, so don't add the extra stress. Simply get into your tournament routine.

All in all, you want to feel refreshed and energized when you sit down, ready to perform your best. Lots of people have different routines, so find the one that fits you best.

If you're in doubt whether equipment will be provided, just bring your own (Board, pieces, clock). The organizer really should state in the announcement whether equipment will be provided, but who knows, maybe he forgot. I'd say most of the time you're expected to bring your own equipment.

In general, you have to bring your own board/clock in the US. However, I have heard it is different in the rest of the world. Since you don't have a location specified and have not given us details of the tournament, it is hard to say.

Edit: It cannot hurt to take your own stuff, even if the official tournament equipment is provided, it can be useful in the skittles room.

Is the skittles room for analyzing your games or for a nice sugar high before starting the tourney? ;p

In my experience, 'tis both.
