Well it's his move - so maybe he will if you give him a chance, anyway you might accidentally stalemate him - or forget to take his queen when he promotes the pawn. Some people never resign, it's not compulsory.

Well, my endgame is not bad, but it is also not great. (Ssssstttt, don't tell my opponents that). So it is possible for me to make a mistake. Usually, if (if and not when...) I make that mistake in the endgame and I (finally) do see it, I always keep playing a few extra moves before resigning, just for the learning experience.

On the other hand, it can be very frustrating when people just keep on playing in lost positions, so I never play those endgames for too long. And when I eventually resign after a few moves too many I usually post a message with the reason for playing on: "just to learn".

But playing a bit longer myself, I can understand people who also keep playing. So I don't mind if my opponents keep on playing too.
