21.f4! is a game winning shot.

I saw his comments and never commented on it.
No bolt holes for me, if your wrong you must own up.
If you play a bad move on the board and get whacked – you are to blame.
I did see it, it got a quick check.
21.f4 Qg4 22.fxe5 Bxg3 23.Qxg4 Bxf2+ 24.Kxf2 fxg4+ 25.Kg3 dxe5 This is OK
still a 50/50 game - edge to Black.. (lousy monitor analysis – not an excuse).
Saw The Mad Rook comments. (“The Mad Rook is mad” I’m thinking.)
Took print out whilst at work..
I played it out on my pocket set on the bus home. Found 23.hxg3 and my line is bust.
Well cover me in custard and kick me into touch.
The incredible thing is, as The Mad Rook states, it was on for about 5 moves.
The ultra incredible thing is if Black play 21…f4 he wins.
(check it out –if the Knight on f3 moves than 22…Nxf3+ wins the Queen.
I’m right this time - the pocket set does not lie to me.).
So these two were playing back and forth both refusing to play f4 because it won!
(it’s one of those – if you don’t see it the first time around, you will never see it).
I love it I really do.
I come on and compound the error.
(And so do others&hellipπ
The only person who keeps at it is The Mad Rook and
nobody listens to him because….well he’s mad.
(and the Green Pawn is Greenhorn)
(He was a trifle rude in the first posting I thought,
but forgive/forget and all that business).
So hats off to The Mad Rook (and his engine).
Today’s lesson is don’t believe everything you are told.
(even by over 2000 players - I’m 2001!).
Infact don’t believe anything you are told by good players.
I love this site, I really do – another piece perhaps for The Corner. Brilliant.
Originally posted by greenpawn34I wasn't going to make any further comments to this thread, but this post by greenpawn34 is hilarious (in a good way). Just when I think greenpawn is getting really easy to hate, he goes and posts something like this and totally disarms me.

Yes, I was initially rude, and I have no idea what came over me to make that comment. (Maybe I AM mad.) Although I did apologize to the OP for my rudeness, I'm still looking around the house for someone to blame for my actions or for the dog to kick. I guess while I'm on the subject, greenpawn, I also apologize for the "snide remark" comment that I made to you. Also uncalled for. (OK, have I covered all the needed apologies now?)
Greenpawn, if you do decide to use this for your Corner, feel free to embellish it any way you want (as if anyone could stop you anyway, hehe). No problem if you want to make me out as the mad, bad guy. I guess a little infamy would be fun for my online personality.
Originally posted by ParShooterNot quite since I could've been trapped (or so I thought back then) with my own pieces leaving the d2 square unprotected.
I'd have played b3 a lot sooner than you did. Your bishop was imprisoned and out of the game. b3 would have broken him out of his cell.
I love my bishops since I like open games, and the thing is that I got so fixed thinking how to free my bishop that I missed a lot mistakes my opponent made; I guess it was just one of those days π
Also I did not think that she would push the c pawn; I guess a4 was pointless, I guess maybe I even should've played f4 to kick out that knight.
Finally, it is not that I don't think through the openings, maybe in this game I got carried away; and yes! the bishop was better off at f1
thanks
Originally posted by greenpawn34Yes, you're absolutely right about this. It was really funny to see my engine pleading for someone, anyone to play f4, with the evaluation bouncing back and forth between positive and negative:

f4!
...f4!
f4!
...f4!
etc., ad nauseum
Will most likely use diagram showing joint missed wins.
(won't make issue of it - if they find out I've been out-done by a
computer after all the slagging I've given these things.
I'd get big pelters - but it's water of a duck back to me).
Have a few other ideas and some people have sent in some good games.
Also got a picture of a beatiful girl trying to get a
double bass into the pub where I drink.
True story.
I once announced a mate in three in a League game.
(it's what you did in my day- just for the banter)
Wandering Dragons v Stirling 1986/87
Two moves I resigned!!
That had them laughing for months. True.

From your RHP rating, I suspect I'm even a bigger blunderer than you are. I know a number of times in my otb games, I've overlooked opportunities for more than one move.
c'mon if that never happen to you; hey it happens π
I just got an idea; how about we play a game Mad rook or anyone?
Once in a slow time control otb game, I offered a draw to my much stronger opponent, who politely refused the offer, then mated me on the next move. And my draw offer was a sincere one - I never saw the mate. It even took me a few seconds after he made the move for me to see the mate. Talk about embarrassing, I was looking around for a hole to crawl into.
If I use the positon I won't name names.
Anyway if I do - nobody really knows who the players are.
Check out the rest of the site - there are bigger blunders than missing
a simple pawn fork.
Resigning in a won position with two Queens - now that's a blunder.
(see site - I had to pay £10 for that game).
It's part of the fun - no harm. It's a game.
Edit 1: Hey Mad Rook. I'm glad you got challenged and not me.
Originally posted by Mad RookI am sending a 2 way invitation MAD ROOK so we get to be white & black; like somebody said just fun, no harm; talk to you on the games

Honestly, I think you lost the game when you castled and then immediately moved the rook.
That's just way to slow. You lost your initiative and if you look back at the game that's when your opponent took advantage and started pressuring you.
Without getting into the details of the specific moves you can tell the control of the game shifted at that point.
I think it has been firmly established that White lost
because he/she missed 21.f4 22.f4. 23.f4 etc.
Black missed 21..f4 22..f4 23..f4 etc.
No matter how badly or well an opening/middlegame/ending is played
these simple tactics have to be seen and played.
Don't worry if you missed it - everybody missed it.
('cept one man and his dog).
I missed it and I've written a book on tactics!
So we all agreed not to discuss the finer points of this game
until basic tactics are seen and spotted.
