Almost. But 6.... fxg6 is a blunder. Black doesn't have to take the knight. He can just ignore it.
I still can't get a white win. But underpromting is the only option so far that's playable.
1. h4 Kc7 2. h5 Kb6 3. h6 a6 4. h7 Ka5 5. h8=N b6 6. Ng6
I'm currently, in the newer line, in which Black holds the pawn at b7, right about here:
1. h4 Kc7 2. h5 Kb6 3. h6 a6 4. h7 Ka5 5. h8=N Kb6 6. Nxf7 Kc7 7. Ne5 Kd6 8. f7 Ke7 9. Kc2 a5 10. Kb2 a4 11. Ka2 a3 12. Kb1 b6 13. Ka2 Kf8 14. Nd7+ Kxf7 15. Nxb6 Ke6 16. Nc8 Kd5 17. Na7 Kc5
... and I am of the reformed opinion that Black can, in fact, force the draw. I can't see any way for White to progress. Black's king will keep the knight at bay.

... and White will, at best, end with K+N against K for a draw (for example: 12...Ke7 13. Nc5 a5 14. Nxb7 a4 15. bxa4 bxa4 16. Nc5 a3+ 17. Kb3 Kd6 18. Nd3 Kd5 19. Nxb4+ Kc5 20. Kxa3).
I think my final answer is: Black draws. But not easily 😀
Originally posted by huntingbearAgreed. If there is a way for white to win this I can't find it. MUCH MUCH harder than it looks at first. Hence the reason it's a "puzzle" I suppose. 🙂

Anyway, I give up.
Does anyone in this thread have fritz? If so slap this puppy in there and see what it says.
