Enter John Hewitt a barman at Sandy Bells who stood in at board 6 in
an emergency in a Bells v Scottish Widows match and won.
John was Black. The final position from his first ever serious game.
Same season and again a player short so another game for John.
He resigned in a position very similiar to this.
He resigned because he did not know the stalemate rule.
A few weeks later he left Bells to live in the north of Scotland and as
far as I know has never pushed a pawn in anger again.
Not a bad playing career.

It's a little off topic, but for the first time today I got to play Legal's Mate OTB. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw h6 and Bg4, and when he took my queen I was over the moon. Definite highlight of the day.
