Originally posted by clandarkfirethere are many draws one piece down. Generally, of course, you will loose, but in some situations you can arrange some pretty neat draws (one piece alone doesnt win a game, one piece and a pawn many times don't win a game). In some situations you can downright resign, but as there are so many horrible endgame players around here I think, if in a reasonable position, you can force the draw, or at least try to.
I also feel that for anyone rated above 1300 or so, if you are a piece or most certainly two down, without any counterplay, its time to resign

because most good players 1)Know it when they're lost. 2)Have respect for their opponent's abilities. 3)They respect the game.
Well said Jonathan B.
Nobody has any right to tell an opponent when they should rsign.
If a player wans to play on till he is mated then he is quite at liberty to do so.
Don't take it as a personal insult to your chess playing ability, chess players
do and say odd things when faced with a loss.
Keep focused and look for a neat wrap up to put him out of his misery.
Learn from The Pillager what can happen if you fanny about with a won game.
He was Black in both games.

(I sware I thought to myself before every move: avoid the stalemate) I'm an idiot...

damn, not even a goodbye note in our game... how selfish.
But don't worry: I've transfered my account to the devil, my new master, in exchange for my soul back, so I (he) won't be loosing any games on time. (i think he didn't realise he could just join the site)
