How do you feel about trading queens with someone obviously more skillful than you?

Would you feel more comfortable playing with a queen against that person or more comfortable when they are without their queen?

If they were being attacked and offered me a queen trade I would be reluctant - most stronger players are actually quite keen to get rid of the queens against lesser opponents because they are still likely to outplay them with minor pieces and it reduces the chances of a swindle.

Is she hot??? Haha...just kidding. I don't mind early queen trades as I like to play endgames. However, If I am down in material or think the resulting endgame wouldn't be in my favor then I try to keep the queen on the board.

I would trade the Queen, watch and learn from the more skillful player.

Unless I am attacking or it would leave me in a bad position, I trade queens because it reduces the chances of my opponent catching me off guard with a tactical shot.

If they are "obviously more skillfull" than you, trading Queens just makes you feel better and delays the inevitable. People who count the number of moves a game has lasted before they lose like to do this. Keep your Queen and you may get lucky if your opponent gets complacent.

Great response. A queen sac to win is probably the most satisfying thing there is. Recently, I had my first forced 6-move combination ending in a smothered mate: check, rook sac, check, double check, queen sac, mate. I was smiling inwardly for a week.

Sorry, I just reviewed that game and it was a 5-move combination: check, check, double check, queen sac, mate, but it was still very satisfying because it was all forced and I saw it coming well in advance.

>Unfortuneately it was not played on this site, but it was a classic smothered mate. Basically it can be found in any instruction book that shows a smothered mate.
>My opponent didn't play too well and I was up material when I started the combination. Still, I was so pleased that I recognized it and was a little surprised that my opponent played it out. I guess he was making me prove it, which is vaild. But if it was me, I would have resigned before the last move, not out of spite, but out of respect.
>Actually, since then I've had 2 more smothered mates, but both were OTB. Nevertheless, the first one is always memorable, like sex, but sex is better!🙂

I sure hope so, otherwise you're spending waaaay to much time online 😉

I don't know about the whole resigning thing. Whenever I make a sacrificing mate I prefer the opponent let me play it out. I don't know, it just feels so much better when it's completed all the way through. I tend to let opponent's play it out as well.

My pet peeve is people resigning before the last move of a mate. I mean if you waited this long to resign in the first place then just let me play the last damn move!!
