When in doubt, use this rule of thumb:

If you have to ask whether it's cheating, it probably is.

[Note: This also applies to your income tax. 😉]

Very? I didn't hear you snapping your fingers when you asked the question.

It would be cheating. You would be giving advice regarding the conduct of the game. It is the player's responsibility to notice the conditions of the game, and informing him of something he may have overlooked in his is not allowed.

what if a clan member asks for general advice on whether the clan has a "skulls" policy? Clan leader would normally answer with the clan's policy if there is one, but not necessarily look to see if there is a game in progress.

Would it be cheating if you sent a message to someone telling them they can time out someone in another game?

Dear Dutch Defense,

Thank you for your recent feedback.

No, this would not be a cheating offence.

Please let me know if I can help further,

Regards,

I'm not so sure Chris knows chess etiquette.

• Never comment on a game that is in progress, whether the game is yours or one that you are just watching.

I feel you've broke that rule.

Just because I asked a question about something doesn't mean that I actually did that. You can go through all of my messages, PMs etc., but you'll never find anything about me telling my clan members during their games, that their opponent ran out of time and to take the skull. I've never done that and I never will do that.
