What do I see in front of me?
It has one plane of symmetry.
It's rooted in the ceiling.
Electrically and thermally conductive because it's metal.
Seriously...how is it not obvious in retrospect that the lines fit a metal hook?

(How is the ceiling in front of you?)
a strange projection
(Why is a hook strange? its commonplace)
one plane of symmetry
(Hardly a clue!)
rooted in place
(OK)
conductive, both ways
(A red herring - a hook could be plastic or ceramic)
probably reacts slowly with the air
(Another red herring depends on what material its made from)
very convenient but unnecessary
(Debatable ... surely its there because its necessary?)
low tech
(Just like the clue)
a connector of sorts
(Another red herring - what does it connect?)
Not a single bone fide clue!! No wonder nobody got it!

Poetic license. It struck me as an odd shape at the time.
You're ignorant so you didn't get it.
But this hook is metal.
See last sentence.
My parents don't use it. Hang a plant there and whack your head as you walk into the living room.
Connects objects with loops to the ceiling!
I won't argue with you that it's a sucky riddle, but don't tell me it doesn't make sense in retrospect at least. I know it does.

I was going to say... a lake or body of water. It can reflect (project?), is flat, rooted not really. They say water is a conductor. It clearly reacts with air as it evaporates. A particular lake could be convenient but not unnecessary. Low-tech, since it's been here forever. and... it... connects the people at one end of the lake with people on the other... who use a boat to travel... yeah...
