I wonder how destroying the world is defined. Suppose there was an apocalyptic war but people in bunkers survived. Does that count?

Of course not. Given that humans, when given the chance, tend to breed like rabbits, it doesn't even count as depopulating the Earth. We'll be back after a century or two, no problems.
Having the whole planet eaten by a Great Old One would probably suffice. Probably.
