I do look every week but most of them are not very good so I don't bother posting them.
This weeks is not very challenging but here goes:-
I have a square.I increase the length of each side by 14 metres and it's area grows by 700 square metres(there's always a 700 element to them!!)What is the area of my new larger square
@BigDogg is correct of course.
I will just give the equations:
(a+14)^2=a^2+700
=> a^2+28a+196=a^2+700
thus a=18 and (18+14)^2=1032

I don't know how difficult this weeks puzzle is 'cos I haven't really thought about it yet but here it is:-
MInd co and Set ltd are about to merge.A preliminary swap ratio (the relative values of two merging companies'respective shares) of 700 Mind co shares to 1 Set ltd share is calculated.The next day Mind co shares rise by 40% and Set ltd shares fall by 40%.What should be the new swap ratio

Mind Co shares to Set Ltd shares
700:1
So when Mind Co shares rise in value by 40% fewer shares are needed to be equal to Set Ltd shares.
700/1.4=500
When Set Ltd shares fall in value by 40% more shares are needed to be equal to Mind Co shares.
1/0.6= 1 2/3 or 5/3
So combine them to get the new swap ratio.
500:5/3 =300:1
So the new swap ratio is 300 Mind Co shares to 1 Set Ltd share.
@damionhonegan saidCorrect.Well done!
For the preliminary swap ratio
Mind Co shares to Set Ltd shares
700:1
So when Mind Co shares rise in value by 40% fewer shares are needed to be equal to Set Ltd shares.

@damionhonegan saidYou can also do it this way.

Pretend that Set Ltd shares are worth 700 of any currency and Mind Co. shares are worth 1 of that currency.
Decrease in value of Set Ltd shares:
$700*(0.6)= $420
Increase in value of Mind Co. shares:
$1*(1.4)= $1.40
The new swap ratio is $420 : $1.40 = 300:1
So the new swap ratio is 300 Mind Co. shares to 1 Set Ltd shares.

The last couple of weeks the Saturday puzzles have been rubbish.
I'll be looking at this weeks as usual
Another "700" based puzzle;-
Nootropian marching bands may only march in a square formation.One large band could not do this.When 700 left the rest could form an exact square;when the 700 returned,each bringing a friend,a large exact square was formed.
What's the fewest number of people that could have first met?
