Here is a puzzle I heard today - It's ok

What do these numbers relate to?

1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000

What's so puzzling about it?

No, not currency. There aren't, and never have been, $200 or $2000 bills, and denominations of $500, $1000 and $5000 are no longer in production.

We don't issue the $2 bill anymore, and I don't think we've ever had a $200 or $2000 bill.

If I'm reading your notation correctly:

x5 = x2 * 10
x5 = 3 * 10
x5 = 30

30 doesn't fit the pattern.

You're correct, $200 and $2000 bills never existed. However, though rare, the $2 bill is still being issued.

Seems to match the British currency system. Think in pence - there isn't a £5000 note, but there is a £50 note which is 5000p. Maybe it matches the US system using cents?

They're all factors of 10,000

don't know why 4, 8, 16, 25, 40, 80, 125 aren't listed though

Don't know what it means, but they add up to 8,888. Each group of three adds up to a multiple of 8 (8, 80, 800, 8000).

According to the wonderful online encyclopedia on integer sequences they are the denominations of Polish banknotes (circa 1995).
