I've got hundreds (literally) of these silly puzzles from when I
was relief teaching, here are a few more of the harder ones.
1. How can you add 4.5 to 9.55 and get 2.25?
2. If 1=5, 2=25, 3=325, 4=666 what does 5 equal?
3. The Post Office only accepts cuboid parcels, it defines length at
the longest dimension, width as the second longest and depth as
the third. They do not accept parcels exceeding a length of 120cm,
or a width of 40cm or a depth of 30cm.
What is the longest item I can send?
4. What is the next number in this sequence? 1, 2, 6, 12, 60, 60,
5. What letter has its own time?
6. How can you take one away from nine and have ten left?
7. What gets bigger the more you take away?
8. Who was the President of the USA before JFK was assassinated?
9. A dog's lead is 1m long and it is attached to a 2m chain attached
to a stake in the ground. What is the greatest distance between
dog and bone such that the dog can still reach the bone?
10. I was tidying my bedroom and found 60 pennies, I gave them
to the bank and they gave me 25 shiny pennies in return. Why?
(An almost true story!)
@ponderable said9. Sorry Pondy I don't understand your answer.
9. Zero (otheriwse it won't reach the bone (the length of the lines is irrelevant and would only be the answer if the Question was About the distance between stale and bone))
3. 120 cm
3. Incorrect.
@wolfgang59 saidI think he's saying the for the bone to be reached there must be no distance between the dog and bone?
9. Sorry Pondy I don't understand your answer.
3. Incorrect.
9) I think the greatest possible distance between the dog and bone would have to be 6 meters.
@joe-shmo said#2 and #3 are correct.
2) 5=1 ?
3) I'm thinking you could send an item that fits inside the package of length no greater than
Sqrt ( 120² + 30² + 40² ) = 130 cm
Swinging for the fences on this one.
4) 06
Just the sequence left team.
@joe-shmo saidYou are Right here. I has misread the Question ...
I think he's saying the for the bone to be reached there must be no distance between the dog and bone?
9) I think the greatest possible distance between the dog and bone would have to be 6 meters.
@wolfgang59 saidI think the 60's are the key.
#2 and #3 are correct.
Just the sequence left team.
I'm thinking 60 m inutes in an hour,60 seconds in a minute but I can't correalate this with all the other numbers except maybe 12 months in a year.
Probably not even close!!
@venda saidYeah, the problem with sequences is they have an indefinite number of solutions.
I think the 60's are the key.

4) how about 12?
@venda saidNot the key but possibly a clue.
I think the 60's are the key.
The Sumerians, Babylonians, Chinese, Persians even the Greeks (sometimes)
used base 60 systems. 60 is such an accommodating number. Why is that?
That's your clue.
