I'm sure this thread used to be about a vaguely interesting maths problem, rather than a domestic argument. Oh well. 🙂
No one should be allowed to call other people idiots.
It's disgusting and offensive, even unfriendly in an otherwise friendly atmosphere.
Originally posted by FabianFnasIf someone posts something idiotic then I think it is perfectly reasonable for them to be called idiotic. Perhaps it will encourage them to think a little before they post again. Of course it may dissuade them from posting ever again, but that's a risk I, for one, am willing to take.

I take issue with your attempt to force the rest of us to abide by your delicate sensibilities, and grow tired of your lectures on 'social competence'. Hint: If you must ramble on about it, you probably don't have any yourself.

Mostly all of us has social competence. The most of us are friendly. Like in real life. What about it?
In real life, when I see a newcomer being abused by someone with no social competence, I intervene and tell him what I think. Be friendly or go to those who appreciate unfriendly manners. I take the right to do that. Or else this world is not a friendly world at all.
I've seen bipolar or psycothic people act exactly like Xantoz. If he has a diagnosis for this or not, I wouldn't know. But I know for a fact that this kind of behaviour isn't appreciated in very many palces, especially not in a society where people are supposed to help eachother, enjoy eachothers presence.
Now, I don't like to be called an idiot, but I can handle it. He can't stand me telling him about his lack of social competence, and he can't handle it. Who is then the weaker part? Who is whining about it? Who wants the other to stop? Not me. But I would like him to stop bully newcomers to RHP in order not to scare them away. That is the reason that I would like him to behve like a normal individual.
You say that this is legio at forum like Debate. Then why doesn't he go there and continue being unfriendly and abusive? "Problems and Posers" is not this kind of forum. Here I want (and most of us too) to have a friendly atmosphere and not being called an idiot, just because some nitwit thinks otherwise or not just understood the postings.
Now, there, I've said it.

I'm not sure what society you live in, but in mine, people get angry and frustrated with their fellow humanoids fairly often. Visit New York City, USA and you'll find that 'idiot' is a comparatively mild insult.
There have been plenty of disputes in the Puzzles forum. Thread 61060 is one example.
These forums are some of the most active online forums I've ever seen. Xanthos has been on them for years, and yet they and the rest of the site keeps expanding and growing. So much for 'scaring' the newcomers.

Do you really find Xantoz emotional competent? I don't.
Do you really think Xantoz can't take this kind of critics? That he is so weak? I don't.
I really question that New Yorkers are equally rude as Xantoz? Do you really think so? I don't.
But I agree of your diagnosis of Xantoz that he is a angry personality and a frustrated personality. Do you think it stems from his childhood or what? Perhaps he has been losing a lot of games lately? I don't know. What is your opinion?
I want people to be friendly, I believe in a friendly world. If all people were as angry as Xantoz I can understand that we have a lot of wars in our beautiful world. But is this a world we want? I don't.

I made no diagnosis of Xanthos. You are the one who is fixated on him.

Xantoz, even if you are right it is not very nice to call someone an idiot. (this is al Fabian is trying to say)
Fabian I see your point.
On the other hand you say that you want people to be friendly, but you're not being very friendly. You could give feedback in a very polite manner, however you're only trying to win the argument, you're certainly NOT trying to help Xantoz. (if this is your intention you're really not achieving it).
This is really rude! (in my opinion worse then calling someone an idiot which is straight-forward).
Now you two shake hands and play a game of chess!!
